I'm just joking but you are basically looking at a map and assuming there are "More minority" kids at South Country. There must be, right? I mean, between the Mexicans in Patchogue and the blacks in N Bellport...
Truth is, the HS is in Brookhaven Hamlet, two elementary Schools are in Bellport village and the middle school is in N Bellport. Rest assured your wife will not get mugged teaching in South Country.

I have friends who own there and send their kids to Catholic school.
The schools are "ok" by national standards, but below average for LI. Yeah, you can get a bigger house there than you can in, say, Sachem or Connetquot schools (considered middle of the road districts by LI standards, good by national standards) for the same money, but I'd take the smaller house, being that I have a 2 year old. Just my opinion.

Sachem schools have SIGNIFICANTLY dropped from their prior status and are not as safe either as they used to be.This is why they split the district again in the last few years.I'm not saying they're a bad school but they are more on par with Comsewogue and Middle country and no longer anywhere near the status of 3V.

Kids get out of their education what they put into it. There are minority neighborhoods attached to every "Good" school district you can name (In Suffolk anyway).
If you think there is a difference between Centereach, Sachem, Three Village and Middle County as it pertains to education you are simply incorrect, regardless of what the internet tells you.
I don't mean any of this to sound harsh, btw. You just came across very matter-of-fact in your opinion.

Harsh or not, you're naive and wrong.
Actually yes, a good education can be had at all of those schools, because teachers are highly qualified and, the vast majority at least, care. However, there is something to be said about what a child is exposed to in school and the prevailing attitude of kids around them, and what pitfalls they may encounter. You can send your kid to Wyandanch High School, and if you are active enough in their life and keep on top of them every hour of every day, maybe they'll get into Harvard. More than likely, distractions and nonsense that go on around them will distract them enough from what is important that their performance will suffer. You can also send your kid to Cold Spring Harbor High School, and they might link up with the handful of knuckleheads and end up a burden on you forever.
Are there drugs in every school on LI? Absolutely, even Cold Spring Harbor and Port Jefferson have kids who take drugs and push them in the schools. The question is, how deeply are anti-education mentalities and anti-social behavior ingrained in the kids who go to these schools? There are many parts in the equation, are you going to deny that is at least part of it? I went to high school on LI. I know the mentality...the kids who are brought up to think that education is a waste of time because dad owns a pizza parlor, or who don't pay attention because there's war going on at home, or who are pushed hard by very attentive parents. There are some of each type in ever school, but more in some, less in others.
My experience with people from Centereach....very working class, not super respectful of education. Again, broad generalizations, but that's what we're working with here. My observances from Sachem...still working-middle class, more respect for education as a whole..again, we're talking on average. Maybe the teachers in each school are identical, but the kids are not. Kids influence each other a lot.
The awards and letters form students and parents post graduation answer any questions one might have regarding my wifes teaching abilities.

I agree, but they are still better than Centereach. I've always thought Sachem was too big, and the wannabe bad-a$$ element there is bothersome. I won't look for real estate there either, but..again..it's better than Middle Country.

Sorry dude but when you compare kids from Selden,Centereach, Lake Grove,Ronkonkoma, and Farmingville;guess what? They're all similiar kids and they go to the Newfield and Sachem districts.Sachem has a better history but that's just it---past history. It is now very close with Newfield and no longer an elite. That being said, neither is a bad school.

I disagree. Both areas have nice and a little bit rundown areas but not horrible like certain parts of N.Bellport(post ave.area).Of all the towns in the 2 districts,i'd take North Selden over all of them. The area by wireless road in centereach is a better side of town too.For the money though,i'd take a house in North Coram in the Comsewogue district. In the wedgewood section there are 3 districts (coms.,mid ctry, longwood) but I don't like longwood. The other 2 are good and it's a better area then centereach for similiar money.

As far as schools go.
No contest
1)Middle Country
2)Longwood
3)Comsewogue
As far as QOL goes.
1)Longwood
2)Comsewogue
3)Middle Country
If you want to see what happpens when developers design your town for you by buying elected officials ...drive from Selden-Centereach on Middle Country Rd at rush hour.
Its a complete failure in planning and the posterchild of dumb growth.
