Long Island would control:
- customs and immigration matters via a Long Island Customs & Immigration Service.
- health care.
- education.
- taxation.
- judicial matters.
- law enforcement/criminal justice/prisons via a single unified Long Island Police Service, prisons (the current county jails) would be run by a Long Island Prison Service, civil process, court security, etc by a Long Island Marshal's Service, etc. The Police Service would also contain a brigade sized paramilitary Special Services Unit for internal security matters.
- fire & rescue via a single unified professional Long Island Fire & Rescue Service.

Physically Queens and Kings (Brooklyn) are on Long Island, but both are part of the city. They would never ever allow themselves to be removed from the city and made part of Long Island State. Therefore only Nassau and Suffolk would become the state.
Also NY state would remove the State troopers from patrolling the parkways in Nassau and Suffolk. Our county police would have to take that up.
So with that all in mind, we need the posters here to do the following.
1. Name the state. Should it be Long Island State?
2. State motto. Should it be The Tax Me State?
3. State capitol. Shirley? Mastic?
4. State governor. Calif. has The Terminator, so who should we get?
Oh and should we stay in the Eastern Standard Time Zone and use Daylight Savings or should we demand our own time zone and not follow Daylight Savings?

If this were to happen (in jest) we should at least put up a big wall at Route 110 and direct anybody who needs to head east, and is not a resident, to get the key with the large wooden block attached from the fulltime clerk we will hire. This way we can be sure they will return it...

Good idea, although the full time clerk can't be there full time. We have to make this as bureaucratic as possible. There is supposed to be a clerk there full time, but not always in the office, the phone will ring off the hook but no one will answer.

will never happen, look at the price of LI police alone, teachers, and you want to take on more unions, more contracts, no one wants to pay taxs...cant see a balanced budget...
every state employee would want 100k a year, and 1% salary tax, too much coruption
