Ronkonkoma Parking
Has anyone received a ticket for illegal parking at the Ronkonkoma station?

Not me personally but I know someone who did. They do patrol that lot very good, so it's wise to park in an actual space.

I've seen cars parked all over the grass and the medians, but that's when all the legal spots are filled..they could have a field day handing out tickets, but....people are going to work, give them a break.

When I get there a little after 6am, most spots are already taken on the south side, unless you park really far away. I parked on the zebra zone on wednesday and got a ticket - $75.

Well, they never used to do this, but apparently some municipality is looking to increase revenues. However, the "most" part of your story is the troubling one. If there are legal spots remaining..you shouldn't be creating new ones.

You are absolutely right that I shouldn't have parked there. However, the number of legal spots remaining is very limited to begin with. What happens when people are looking to park at 8 or 9 am, its almost impossible to find a spot. People have no choice but to park illegally.

I'm not sure how it works..I'm hoping that the are decent human beings and don't ticket once all the regular spots are filled, but....that's probably foolish and naive of me.

That is mostly true. However I have been in that lot and seen them come in and park on the grass when the corner lots (south side of the tracks) still have empty spaces. Not sure why they do that.
Now they're going to pave the lot that is east of the ticket booth on the north side of the tracks. Right now its all dirt/gravel. So if you take that line, try to get there a bit earlier so you can get an actual parking spot.

Sorry to hear that. With the north side of the lot being paved (see my previous post), I would advise you to try to leave a bit earlier to get a parking spot.

That project won't be finished until December. But, I'm sure it will be a big help in reducing the congestion on the south side.
