Simple response: don't click on them...there's one on the entire first page of the forum..why is that so offensive to some people that one thread about a subject they don't want to talk about has to be locked and banned by the mods? I don't particularly care about "cheap places to get hammered" either, but I'm not whining to the mods asking them to lock the thread. Sheesh.

I don't click on them, dman72, but sometimes they work their way into other threads. Some of these threads are born again rehashes of the same argument, same parties holding fast to their sides of the argument.
I was hoping to get a brief respite from the who is paid what more than who.
NYU grad -- this isn't a thread to discuss either group' just to discuss whether or not we've had enough teacher and cop bashing.

It's kind of hard to not bring up teacher and cop salaries when you talk about property taxes, since they make up about 60 % and 11% of your tax bill, and property taxes are a major issue on LI. That's where the "other threads" get dragged down into this discussion.
The problem with the discussion on these topics is the extreme level of dishonesty and hyperbole..that seems to be coming from all directions.
The cop bashers will tell you that cops on LI spend all day hanging out in fire houses
The teacher bashers will tell you that every teacher on LI makes 200K and molests kids.
On the other side, cop defenders will have you believe that cops are diving in front of bullets on a daily basis to save all our lives.
Teacher defenders will tell you that teaching is the toughest job in the world.
There's basically little or no truth in the any of the statements above, but 90% of the arguments seem to start from these perspectives.
For instance, I've never once said that police work is easy..I've simply said that cops on LI are overpaid considering the qualifications and applicant pool, and relative to what police in the region in much more dangerous areas are paid. However, you have a former cop on here who refers to any person that talks about police being overpaid as a cop basher. There's no middle ground with some..if not most..of these people.
