Default Experience with Lynbrook Village Court re Speeding Tickets?

Someone I know got a speeding ticket for going 53 mph in a 30 mph zone. It was on Peninsula Blvd. The speed limit changed from 40 to 30 just after a traffic light that he says he was trying to get through. He is concerned because he has some points on his license from Florida and recently got a ticket in Tennessee. I know Florida and NY reciprocate department of motor vehicles' information. I don't know about Tennessee.

I know that many village courts will play "let's make a deal" with people and lower the charges to something they can get a fine in but not get points on their license. I don't have any experience with Lynbrook though.

He is wondering if he needs to hire a lawyer. If anybody has any experience, ideas, or information, it would be helpful. TIA!

My only experience here was not on LI...it was upstate NY. I got pulled over by a trooper...but had to go to local court. The judge reduced the speeding ticket to a "failure to obey traffic device"...which in this case was the speed limit sign. What that did was make the infraction a non-moving violation, which is then paid to the local court...and not the state.

The judge did actually say that too...that it kept the money more local (and helped me out because it was way less of a fine).

If he got pulled over by a local cop...then there might not be as much hope.
