Anyone know how the area is in the middle island area, it is on the border of coram. longwood SD. the realtor says it is "bad" but i think she is just trying to not show the house since it isn't her listing. she has been a pain in the arse with showing me houses i want to see.

I would strongly urge you to stay away from Gordon Heights.

Stay away from this area if you have kids...It's bad..Your realtor is 100% right,,,,.Just check this link (plenty of sex offenders and drugs)...

Inside the Sex-Offender Cluster of One Long Island Town -- New York Magazine

Map of registered offenders in your neighborhood

I almost bought a big house at Middle Island but found this issue and went with a small house in Farmingville (Sachem School District).

Houses there looks really nice but are fake.

I hope this help you.

If it's the border it probably is gordon heights on less it's on westfield. If you have the street name we can give you more info. Longwood is not a great district but I would especially avoid "the heights".

Wilson Ave. Reallly close to 25. It is considered "middle island" so I am not sure. I am not worried about the SD. I want to make sure that I don't buy a house close to crack heads & such.

Gordon heights is not on the border of MI, its smack in the Middle of Coram on the southern side, ask Walter for a map.
The problem with MI right now is its been seriously affected by the economy, almost all of the shopping centers have vacant stores, boarded up businesses and the area just looks generally depressed along RT25. For the record MI & Coram have both been through this before & by the time they come back around & new businesses jump in to the area things are headed back into the cyclical crapper again. My guess is the toyota dealer and PC Richard close up next.

ETS-I would not buy a house in an area considered Gordon heights, its not a great area & do you research on the Fire Dept

I spent a lot of time in Middle Island as a kid; my first job was at Pet Connection in the old King kullen when I was 12. I attended Longwood and of course, the Middle School.
Middle Island is OK, IMO. Avoid Gordon Heights and Homestead Village. I think Homestead is worse than Gordon Heights but that's just my opinion.
Middle Island went through the roof during the housing boom! Lots of 500k+ houses. If it were my choice, I would live towards the Eastern side of Middle Island rather than towards Coram.
If you are seriously considering Middle Island, take a good look at Coram too. You can get a lot of house for teh money right now. Coram is not a bad place either but there is so much traffic, especially during rush hour. CR83 and 112 are horrible getting to and from the LIE.
There are some nice places in Selden as well and the school district is considered "Better".
