Oh, that, LOL! Not surprised I messed up, considering my only exposure to the song was years ago when my nephew was learning to play guitar and it was the first (and for a long time ONLY) song he "performed".
As for the "ouch" factor, I look at it this way: If you're going to make a painful pun or silly statement, what better place to do it than in the safety of an Internet forum? At least there's no risk of getting pelted by rotten tomatoes.
(and I can just see Crooks searching the 'Net this minute for photos of rotten tomatoes to post! )

The $12,600 was for a two zone system, all new ducts, 2 condensers (16 SEER Amana), and 2 air handlers.
I know it sounds like a lot, but it was a 2 stage condenser with high efficiency ratings. Other quotes were a lot more.

that doesn't seem all that out of whack to me. AC is one of those things where they could double the cost and I'd still pay it. Can't put a price on your own comfort IMO.

I agree, that sounds like a very reasonable estimate. Especially for the two-stage variable units which are more expensive than the more common variety (but worth it).
Did it also include hardwired thermostats with a battery backup? It's a handy convenience if so, because then you won't have to redo your entire programming every time you need to replace the batteries in the battery-powered ones. With the hardwired, even if you lose power the backup batteries will kick in so that you won't need to reset everything afterward.

You know...I'm not sure. I'm going to check on that. I know the thermostats take regular batteries but I'm not sure if that's for a battery backup or regular power. Thanks for the info.

5 grand doesnt sound too bad for a CAC system, i would have thought it would be more. i have a small ~1000 sq/ft ranch, with a basement and attic, hot water heating though so no ducts. if i could get a system installed for about 5 grand i think it would def. be worth it to me.
what i wanna know, is what is the electric cost gonna be, versus having a window unit or 2?

I had many estimates to put in central air and believe it or not Sears was the best price. Friend also investigated many companies and went with Sears. Don't be too fooled by energy efficiency. DH is a contractor and when he asked salesman how long it would take to get money back for the higher efficiency model the guy admitted it would take years for the savings to come thru. So sometimes the efficiency is not as big a deal as you think, just more money.
