Is this a nice community? What kind of reputation does the community have? What school district is the community in? I ask because I found some interesting history on the community here: The Gordon Heights Archives , http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/histor...ghts/intro.htm

I'm serious. I've never heard of this community until today and I was curious about it.

Gordon Heights is not a good area. If you want to pay the highest fire taxes on Long Island, go right ahead and move there.
If you want crime, drugs etc ; go right ahead and move there.

Thats all I am saying.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights

ckhthankgod, if you haven't already done so, you might want to read the following Gordon Heights threads:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...n-heights.html

http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...ordon-hts.html

For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights:

Gordon Heights is a hamlet (an unincorporated community) in the central part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Gordon Heights in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Coram and the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the east by the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the south by the Hamlet of Yaphank and the Hamlet of Medford; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Coram.

Gordon Heights is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Gordon Heights have a "Coram, NY 11727", "Middle Island, NY 11953" and "Medford, NY 11763" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

To underscore how bad Gordon heights is I joked that one of our regular posters lived there and it was instantly deleted by nancythereader as uneccesary...which it was.

Gordon Heights is one of the only places I've never been on Long Island. One day I hope to go there and have my hubcaps stolen and/or be slowly chased into a semi-abandoned farmhouse by crack seeking panhandlers ala George Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

Since I have no prior knowledge of the area, posts on this forum have led me to believe that exact scenario will play out once I step foot in this tiny hamlet. I am looking forward to the experience!
