Some of the finest and most exotic offerings for home & garden decor I've come across have come from Toscano. They have no local physical presence though, just one gallery in IL & of course the internet e-tail site. Still, neat stuff for ideas. They used to focus on antique/historical repro's, but have branched out in the last few years. From Greek classics to Tiki themes, they've got some interesting items.
Statues, Wall Sculpture, Home Decor, Fairies, Dragons, Gargoyles...Design Toscano

At the entrance to the Peconic River Herb Farm there is a person that makes statuaries & sells them from his front lawn. His prices are great & he has some unique items, plus the herb farm is right there

KellyFG, does he have more statuary in the back? I've always noticed that house but wondered if perhaps he had more of a selection than was out front. I'm planning to go out to Peconic River Herb Farm tomorrow so if he does have more, and more types, I may make a stop.

About three years ago I got a pair of simple but elegant ball-topped obelisks at Peconic. They are a bit shorter than I was looking for (only about 24" tall) but they looked great at the entrance to one of my garden paths. They only had the one pair and I've never seen them there again since, so they may well buy "samples".

I find that one of the big problems with cast concrete pieces like that, and one-piece birdbaths and such, is finding ones that have the top piece on straight instead of a little slanted or crooked! That would drive me crazy if I bought it.

One thing I would love to find is a sundial or armillary sphere that I really really love. The unique ones that I've liked in catalogs have always been way out of my price range (as in, $500-$1000 or up). I hate buying heavy stuff sight-unseen because of the potential high shipping costs if I don't like and need to return it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I'll look into them.

I did find my way to LI Statuary on Sunrise Hwy. There was a decent selection of pieces...Grecian, Roman, birdbaths, gnomes/fairies, etc. He can also order pieces from his catalog. Just an FYI for anyone interested...they will be going out of business in August, owner retiring. This may be a good place to keep an eye on for clearance sales.

Thanks again.
