One thing I don't recall reading (please let me know if I missed it) is how big is this boat? Are we talking some small runabout or a 30' cabin cruiser? Also -- is it some ratty boat which has seen better days, or a properly maintained vessel?

No, the comparison to a residential neighborhood being taken over by home-based commercial enterprises, which in turn park one or two commercial vehicles in the yard isn't apples and oranges. We're discussing aesthetics, property values and one neighbor's consideration of their other neighbors.

We all have to live together. Having consideration for one's neighbors goes an awful long way.
Again your opinion. By you're statements you don't have all the facts either!just where did you get the idea this guy is running a bussiness??? APPLES and ORANGES either way you look at it .

You're not reading my posts thoroughly which is causing you to take them out of context. The post I offered about commercial businesses moving into private homes in Manorville was to indicate what happens when people ignore local laws as well as have complete disregard for the aesthetics of their community.

Likewise, a person who stores a boat year round in their yard (the OP's neighbor in PW) has no respect for their neighborhood.

FWIW - I dug about the website for the town in which PW is located. The code was as clear as mud. Which brings me to another point: It is very possible that the OP tried reaching town hall and received several different answers which is why s/he asked the CD page the question to being with.

Apparently you have more sympathy for people ticketed for urinating in public (San Bernandino thread) than you have for people who are trying to learn by asking their local forum -- a forum which doesn't appear to be your home forum.

Have you never asked a neighbor or friend their opinion?

And have you ever dealt with code enforcement in any of the LI towns? You will get 3 different answers from 3 different people if it isn't very cut and dry. I had one occasion which had become so frustrating that I contacted the local paper. My situation was featured in an article about the frustration town residents faced whenever they tried to seek an answer from the town. Perhaps my experience leaves me more sympathetic.

The OP was trying to learn before she did anything further. Her initial appeal to the boat owner fell on deaf ears. She was not asking us for criticism (which was all you've given her.) She was asking for guidance.

All you are capable of doing is posting retaliatory remarks which insult the OP and anyone who has tried to help her.

Fighter 1 - you're over and out and on ignore.

Quote from OP first post " I've tried to bring up the subject of the boat, I find it difficult to say what I want to say and figure that this sort of thing would make anyone defensive " could that mean that she hasn't talked to the neighbor about the boat?? this is not criticism this is fact and giving her examples of other neighborhoods with problems ( apples and Oranges ) Now for constructive advice , go to your city or county and ask them Legal or Not . See how easy it would have been . good night >
