The ones in the parks I mentioned are usually trucked in then set on a slab foundation. I think they look great..just wish the land was included.
About 5 yrs agom there was a park in riverhead...the landowner sold the land to a developer and the residents were told to take the tre trailers and leave. since most of the homes were there since the late 60's they couldnt be moved without damage. it was sad.
If if wasnt for the land issue I would be interested in them as well.

Whatever happened to the trailer park in Syosset? The folks there had a lawsuit to prevent it from closing.

In some places you can buy the land. The land issue is a little scary but this is just a temporary thing for the next 5-7 yrs. I do not want to rent. I lived in FL and am moving out here due to my spouse getting a job & we are staying with a close friend til we find a mobile home. I am not ashamed of owning a mobile home.

I don't understand why mobile homes have not been outlawed, especially in areas like the south (hurricanes) and midwest (tornadoes). They are a natural disaster away from certain death for their residents in many of these cases.

Can anyone throw out a few trailer park areas around here so I can search. Location we are looking in is suffolk county... price is negotiable as well. Schools are not important.

No offense...but why would you want to live in a trailer park?

I don't understand it and I certainly wouldn't want Long Island to become a place known for the availability of trailer homes. I have family who own land in rural Alabama outside Birmingham. There is an area on the way to where they are of mobile homes on lots (land either owned by the trailer home dweller or rented) and it is filled to the brim with dirtbags. Here's a story: a woman decided her trailer was too dilapidated to repair and wanted a new one. So she and a friend (another woman) set it on fire. She got her insurance money and bought another double-wide. As for the fire-damaged one, she and some other people actually PUSHED the flimsy thing over a small cliff to the rear of her lot and the derelict burnt-out trailer is just laying in a hollow. Even if you take the best care possible of a trailer home, it WILL wear out. It is not like a real house in terms of durability or value. It is a DEPRECIATING asset. You will never sell a trailer home for more than you paid for it, nor will you be able to improve it to the point where it is equal to brand new or better than brand new as you can with a real house.

There's no waiting list in the parks I mentioned as far as I know. The peconic river park in Riverhead/Calverton is waterfront backing state and county land. I saw a 2br in there online..its on a 48X140ish lot with direct water access. Its listed in the 70's. That's a nice park also.

I believe there is a stigma attached to a mobile home. Some of the newer manufactured homes look just like a house from the outside. Just google manufactured homes and you will see. I am not offended. I don't see anything wrong with it. We both work. I see it as the same as owning a condo. Long Island is a nice area but if you say "I certainly wouldn't want Long Island to become a place known for the availability of trailer homes." is kind of an ignorant comment to make. Just because someone lives in a trailer doesn't mean they are any less better off or worse off then the people who own a 500k house.

I want to live in one for about 5 yrs to 7 the max because they are cheap. I can save money & even if I get no resale and such I still am building my credit, I get the 1st time home buyer tax credit and can continue to save to get a nice house. I rather spend 50k on something that is liveable and might not be "long islanders" ideal place to live then 200k for a house that I don't really want or have to fix up to be what I want. Makes sense to me at least.
