Default Lynbrook

Seems like it gets a bad rap? Is this a wrong assumption? I bring up places like RVC and Williston Park and I get feedback like, oooh nice towns. I mention Lynbrook and I get, eah, it's okay. Why is that? I know perception can be reality but it seems quite nice.
Homes are more affordable and not really sure why that is.
Also, is parking difficult @ Lynbrook LIRR station?

These days Lynbrook's high school is ranked above Rockville Centre's, so they shouldn't discriminate on that.

I know RVC has some very expensive neighborhoods and that is impressive to some. However, RVC also has a small housing project. Not sure about Williston Park. I don't spend any time there.

I would say that you should ask the people who say "eh ... Lynbrook ... okay" to explain why they feel that way.

Parking at Lynbrook LIRR station requires a permit. Find out if new permits are available if you are going to rely on driving to the station.

Lynbrook from what I know isn't bad. Every town has it's better areas and it's worse areas...but Lynbrook isn't a bad town.

Lynbrook is not a bad town at all. It compares very favorably to the towns around it. Williston Park is probably a step up, but it's not even close by. If you compare Lynbrook to the towns around it (RVC, East Rockaway, Oceanside, Malverne, Valley Stream) it is probably the best of the bunch.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Lynbrook

gwenrn, despite what has been written in this thread, Lynbrook is a village in the Town of Hempstead, and is not a "town". (Likewise, RVC, East Rockaway, Malverne, Valley Stream are villages and Oceanside is a hamlet.)

What people refer to colloquially as "towns" are actually villages and hamlets, which are within actual towns; and, because villages and hamlets are referred to as "towns", then, many times, the error is compounded when actual towns are referred to as "townships".

Also, many colloquially refer to a "downtown business district" in a hamlet as a "village".

http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-y...-glossary.html and http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html may be of some help to you in understanding the geography of "Lawn Guyland".

http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...you-think.html may help you understand the great geographic confusions caused by non-conforming ZIP Code postal zones.

For those who may not be familiar with Lynbrook:

Lynbrook is a village (incorporated in 1911) in the central part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lynbrook is bordered on the north by the Village of Malverne and the Hamlet of North Lynbrook; on the east by the Hamlet of Lakeview and the Village of Rockville Centre; on the south by the Village of East Rockaway and the Hamlet of Hewlett; and, on the west by the Village of Valley Stream.

The Village of Lynbrook has a different border than does the "Lynbrook, NY 11563" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address and not be in the Village of Lynbrook and a place can be in the Village of Lynbrook and have other than a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address): places that have a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lynbrook are in the Hamlet of North Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Hewlett; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lynbrook that have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Actually, Rockville Centre has one of the best high schools in the country. It is ranked about 45th (Approx.) Lynbrook's is ranked over 300.

Depends on which list you are looking at. There are so many lists and of all those lists, the criteria differs greatly. On a list comparing just LI schools from a source I trust whose criteria I agree with, Lynbrook came in #32 and South Side came in #40.

I grew up in Lynbrook. It is a great family town. The only things I dont like about Lynbrook are the Village taxes and the strict rules like no parking on the street between 3qam and 5am.
