Rather than ask Walter Greenspan to provide the stats I'll simply post the Wikipedia link. I can say with certainty it is a Village, not a Hamlet.

Hehehe. Where I live the "community within the community" that used to call itself "Green Acres Estates" changed its name (and its signs!) to "Millbrook Village" since they didn't want to be "associated" with the mall near them anymore. Of course, whatever they call themselves, they are still using the Valley Stream Post Office.

Hey Walter, when did they start using East Hampton North? When I lived in East Hampton, north of the village was either Springs, Three Mile Harbor, or Northwest Woods (going from East to West respectively).
In any event East Hampton North sounds silly. You would think with all of those artsy/pseudo-intellectual types that frequent the place, they would have come up with something more creative than East Hampton North?

The best one on that list is Great River. Alot of people have no idea where Great River is or never heard of it.

For those who may not be familiar with East Hampton North

Concomitant with the 2000 Federal Census, what had been East Hampton unincorporated was renamed East Hampton North

The Hamlet of East Hampton North is between the Village of East Hampton and, from, east to west, the Hamlet of Springs, the Hamlet of Northwest Harbor and the Hamlet of Wainscott.

I'm guessing that they chose "East Hampton North" as a being less silly than "North East Hampton".
For those who may not be familiar with East Hampton North:
East Hampton North is a hamlet in the southwest part of the Town of East Hampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of East Hampton North in the Town of East Hampton is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Northwest Harbor and the Hamlet of Springs; on the east by the Hamlet of Springs and the Hamlet of Amagansett; on the south by the Village of East Hampton; and on the west by the Hamlet of Wainscott.
East Hampton North is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of East Hampton North have an "East Hampton, NY 11937" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html
