Hempstead, ny
Hi. Anybody have any opinions/advice about the new condominium in Greenwich St., Hempstead, NY. Is the neighborhood OK or not?

There is a section of Hempstead near the Garden City border that is ok. Beyond that, it's not a great place to be. Greenwich St happens to be in the "tougher" area.

While I cannot disagree with this, having lived the first 18 years of my life in Hempstead, I would ask this: What are people to do who could not afford to live anyplace on LI BUT Hempstead (or Roosevelt, Freeport, or any other low-income area)? It's easy to tell folks to avoid Hempstead, but what are thier alternatives if work/family keeps them on LI? Is it to be said that you can only enjoy living in a decent neighborhood on Long Island if you make > 60,000 a year? I am curious to hear your opinions on what alternatives exists for those who make less than the average household income here on LI.

Freeport isnt bad as long as you stay south of Atlantic, you also save on the electric... Nassau is too expensive but you can get more for your money out east. I personally cant afford the taxes here so I am looking in Queens.
