Question About Eastern Long Island...Are They Boston Fans? (New York: home, live)

I've heard from a couple of people something I find quite odd. I've been told that the eastern most portion of Long Island (wherever that demarkion is) people get reception of Boston stations over New York stations, have New England not NY accents, and accordingly on Long Island there is a large Red Sox/Boston sports fan base. This to me seems proposterous given it's really an impossible drive to Boston from Long Island. I mean...even Rhode Island and Cape Cod have a ton of summer NY vacationers...much less Long Island...so I don't see how an island in the state of NY could have a Boston influence. I wanted to know

1) Is this true?
-Do people/parts of Eastern Long Island have a home base for the Red Sox?
-What about other Boston teams?

2) Do you get Boston/New England stations along with or instead of New York stations?

3) If this is the case...where is the demarkation? Is it just Orient Point or where is the line?

4) Again if this is the case...why...given that Boston really isn't closer...and even on the other side of the sound you still have the NY factor?

The east gets a few conneticut stations but Boston is just as despised here as anywhere else.

I have heard this only as urban legend in reference to a sibling of either Carl Yastremski or maybe Ted Williams who lives(d) out east and an enclave of Boston fans were born. I have also witnessed a chunk of Rhode Island Yankee fans (all italian for whatever reason) in a few towns in that state as well. All born and raised in RI.

My dh works in Southampton and lots of Red Sox fans out there.

Seemingly years ago the only tv channels they could get out there were the New England channels so they all went to follow those teams.

There is a strong historical connection between the eastern end of Long Island and New England:

The eastern end of Long Island -- the Town of Southold, the Town of Southampton and the Town of East Hampton -- were settled by English colonists coming south from Connecticut (that's why Southold -- which at that time, included both the Town of Riverhead and the Town of Shelter Island -- is called "Southold" even though it's on the north fork because it was the southern hold of the English coming south out of New England until additional settlements were founded on the south fork).

Yaz is actually a bonafide LI legend, born in Southhampton, and a 1957 graduate of Bridgehampton HS.

So it's true....people from parts of Long Island actually DO feel a connection and tie with Boston/New England...to this day?
That's insane...we're talking New York and Long Island of all places...and it's not like you can drive and get to Boston from Long Island.

Do you actually get Boston TV Stations and radio signals?

I can't believe this would be true today if anyday...NY signals like WCBS and WFAN are heard well into New England and the south...I can't think of why Boston signals would be more common on Long Island.
It's not like getting CT signals is a big deal...most of CT roots for and is more connected to NY anyway...so it just seem so improbable.

If this is the case...how far East on Long Island before you reach this "zone" and are people really raised to be Boston sports fan within the NY boundary?

OK...where on Eastern Long Island...just the extreme portions or a pretty good chunk and are you serious...there are a lot of Red Sox fans born and raised on Long Island still to this day?
Does this carry over to the Pats/Celts/Bruins?
