If it makes you feel better, South Country is mostly white. It's a fact. Just look at photos of Bellport HS's league championship photos the last 50 years. Lots of drug free white faces.
The one and only reason South Country gets a bad rap is people believe it's a black district because kids from N Bellport go there. Yet the school populace is white. That's strange.
Your wife is a teacher, you should know better.

I think the OP should go to the Bellport marina and sit on a bench for a few minutes, then go to the Post Office and Library, stop in to the CVS and Supermarket and have a look around. Then check out Kreamer Street School. All of this is within walking distance.
Then go to the brand new Lowes on Montauk Hwy and even stop at 7-11.
Count the black faces. It's easier to count the blacks because there are so many whites.
Do this and tell me it's a bad area. Oh, but the SD sucks because 20 kids from N Bellport go there.

We haven't even discussed taxes yet, btw.
I'm well aware of how nice most of Bellport is. I've been to all sections of it.

I don't remember there ever being 15 kids beating up on 2 kids in my old high school. Granted, that was over a decade ago. It wasn't "just a fight". There was a racial element to it. That stuff did start to creep into my wifes HS, but they cut it off by removing all the kids who were attending who really should have been going to an neighboring district, but gave fake addresses.

Maybe stuff like that hasn't happened in Bellport for awhile? I also said that the educational opportunities are there if your kid stays on the right track. I know a woman who went there who graduated in the top 5 of the class and went to an ivy league school. So, I didn't bash it.

And, Brentwood still sucks, my friend. I noticed no comment on the drive by.

My only knowledge of Brentwood is my boss, who is pretty wealthy and lives in Brightwaters. His kid goes there and does well. He speaks very highly of Brentwood SD but he grew up in Brentwood (Poor kid makes it to the big time I guess?)
I can't comment further because that's all I know about it.

So many people sprout off about schools without having any knowledge other than heresay. It's a disservice to the school and to the people who way be looking for homes in the area.

Part of what Brentwood does is that they make the 9th grade like a military camp..trying to drive out all the undesirables so that in the later grades, you can worry about teaching. I know someone who teaches there. That person wouldn't consider sending their kid to that school. Next.

I wouldn't live in Brentwood either. But, I wouldn't judge the SD without educating myself first.

Your teacher friend doesn't mind picking up a paycheck from the distrct, huh?

What does that have to do with anything? The guy works hard, he's had his life threatened by students. It's not his fault half the kids are more concerned with being bad*** than their futures. The kids who want to learn are taught well. The other gangbanging wannabe trash end up where most gangbanging trash end up. I guess that's his fault..at least, for those who have the agenda against teachers it is. Never let an honest discussion get in the way of your agenda!!

"Agenda" Here's my agenda: I don't want to continue this discussion. Let's be respectful to the OP and not derail this in to an arguement about Brentwood or it's schools.
South Country sucks because they have drive by shootings and one time 15 black kids beat up a white kid. That would never happen anywhere else on LI (Except possibly in another black district).
The OP should live in Rocky Point.
OK?

Yeah, let's not derail it by going off on tangents because you don't like someones opinion of the school that people in your home town go to.

Bellport SD is WAY WAY DOWN on the list of districts on Long Island.

Centereach High School (Middle Country)...............................99.3 (S/12%)
Deer Park High School (Deer Park).........................................95.8 (S/13%)
Bellport High School (South Country).....................................90.6 (S/19%)
Walter G. O'Connell (Copiague)........................................ .....90.3 (S/28%)
Brentwood High School (Brentwood)......................................8 4.8 (S/54%)
Amityville Memorial (Amityville)...................................... .......78.0 (S/35%)
Central Islip HS (Central Islip)............................................ ..57.2 (S/27%)
Freeport High School (Freeport)........................................ ...53.3 (N/26%)
Hempstead High School (Hempstead)....................................37. 9 (N/42%)
Roosevelt (Roosevelt)....................................... .................34.1 (N/100%)
Westbury High School (Westbury)........................................ 32.9 (N/64%)
Wyandanch Memorial (Wyandanch)....................................... 13.8 (S/26%)

It's the 10th lowest rated. It's all in my head, though, that there are problems there.

What do those numbers mean? You just posted numbers. What am I supposed to be seeing? South Country is the 10th lowest school to have numbers listed next to it?
And what the hell is my agenda? Am I on a quest or something?
Rocky Point Rules!!

BTW, that's the lamest accusation ever. Would it be better to comment on towns I don't live in, or never lived in? So anything that is positive must be said simply because I live there? Is that the Agenda you are referring to?

StephM is on a distinguished road
North Bellport is not a nice place to live. There is a serous drug/crime problem there.

What is your price range? Have you tried looking at Ridge, Sound Beach, Rocky Point? There is also the Manor Park section of Mastic, that area goes to Eastport/South Manor schools.

I live in Yaphank and have two children whom go to Bellport Elementary and one whom will be starting there next year. My wife has been class mom for the two children in there since they started and I am up there with her for every event (I am retired on disability from the NYPD which is how I have the free time). It is a good school with no problems that I have seen. My neighbors across the street have one child in the middle school and one in Bellport High. Neither one talks of any problems at all. Be wary of the people whom do not live in an area giving their opinion of that area. They simply do not know and just go by what they think they know or things they have "heard". I personally went to high school for grades 10,11 and 12 in Ridgewood, NY which bordered Bushwick. Of course there were a lot of fights. The fights were always between people whom were looking for fights though. It was never someone minding their own business and not looking for trouble getting jumped. I believe this is the same at any school regardless of where it is located. I started high school at Berner High School in Massapequa on Long Island. There were fights there as well. I can personally tell you that there was a much bigger problem with drugs in Massapequa than there was at Grover Cleveland (the high school in Ridgewood). I suppose this was due to the fact that the kids in Massapequa were more bored and also came from families where they did not have a hard time getting money to blow on drugs. By the way, Massapequa was an all white area and obviously Ridgewood was heavily mixed with nationalities and races.
As for the people that say "What about moving to Center Moriches or other areas?"; there is a large cost difference in housing between these areas which must be taken into account. I have a good friend whom lives in Center Moriches and he sends his child to private school. Go figure.
