LIMA will become famous soon enoughLIMA will become famous soon enough
My dart was 3400 lbs (71-340)

The registration for my truck says 9200 lbs, i don't believe those weights on the cards, all i know is none of them ever matched the weight at the scale...unless the track scales are way off, My Magnum GT (78 B body) 3900 lbs without me in it and missing everything but 1 seat.

Newports are pretty well optioned to add up the lbs

As I stated in my post; the 2 door hardtop 1968 Newport I own is not a well optioned car. It is the lowest in the "C" body line and does not have as much trim as the New Yorker or It came from the factory with no a/c, no power windows or locks, etc. I had a 1980's Grand Fury that was over 4,000 pounds. When that was not running it was definitely harder to push around than my Newport is. I also owned a 1973 Buick Electra 225 that weighed over 6,000 pounds. That was insanely heavy. I know the Newport is nowhere near there just by the way it went on the trailer with my winch as compared to the Buick. My truck also had to work a lot harder towing the Buick. A lot of the newer cars; Challengers included, are heavier than the older ones due to the safety laws, power windows, locks, air bags, etc. My Newport may be over what it says on the registration but I will find out for sure once I weigh it. The much better optioned 1968 Chrysler 300 with the hideaway headlights weighs 4,200 pounds according to a number of different web sites. I was also reading how the Newport, New Yorker and 300 were brought down in weight deliberately for the 1965 through 1968 models due to the fact that the 61-64 models were known for being big, heavy and slow. Supposedly Chrysler wanted to loose that stigma and one of the ways they tried was by making the cars starting in 1965 much lighter.

I would be surprised if the NP is as light as they claim... My RR isn't 3300, neither is my Dart, though the RR is BB car and the Dart a SB car... My Dart is pita to push compared to the GT though.

I will know in August when I get it out of the shop. I will let you know what it weighs after putting it on the scales. I could be wrong. It would not be the first time and if I am wrong I am sure it will not be the last time either. I do know that the title for my Excursion says just under 10,000 pounds and from being on the scales many times at Gershow and the dump that it is correct.

O.K....all this talk of Dodge Challenger's, Darts, etc. combined with some posts that have bashed Granny's for pulling out to merge on highways at 30 MPH can lead to only one thing. SOMEBODY has to stand up for these Granny's, they are not all slowpokes, click the Youtube link below..

Are you sure that's not ~10k lbs. GVWR? That seems insane...

I don't know why this thread turned into an argument about how much cars weigh either...wtf?

...but MSN Autos, which is usually very accurate, lists the heaviest Ford Excursion as the 2005 Excursion XLT 6.0 4WD model....at 7,725lbs. Still insane, but not quite 10,000lbs...

No; my truck is just under 10,000 pounds. This is actually with myself in it as well as a number of tool boxes. I had it towed a few weeks ago on a flat bed and as the flatbed was sliding up on the truck the front of the flatbed actually lifted off of the ground. Once on the truck, the flatbed was very close to the ground as well. The driver told me he actually had to tow an ambulance once and it did the same thing. My truck is a 2001 Excursion Limited four wheel drive with a 7.3 diesel. I believe the weight listed on the truck is actually the GVWR but as I said the near 10,000 pound was with me in it as well as a number of tool boxes. This tells me it has to be up there since I weigh 210 and I do not believe I keep 2,000 pounds of tools in it. I have seen curb weight listings similar to what you have listed.

It was also weighed with my 2,500 pound trailer on it and I subtracted that from the total weight as weighed out by Gershow after emptying my load of metal. I suppose if the weight listed on the trailer is lower than it actually weighs that could account for the near 10,000 pound reading as well. I am sure the scales at Gershow are not reading on the high side since if anything they would want them to read lower or they would be overpaying you for the metal.

Ok Sean. I just thought about it again and you are correct! I forgot when subtracting the 2,500 pounds for my trailer that I mounted a truck tool box on it with my winch in it. It is a real winch like the ones used on a flatbed. It is quite heavy but more importantly I mounted it to my trailer with a large 1/2 inch steel plate that I needed to enlist the help of a friend to carry and we both struggled to lift on there. I also keep my 16 foot chains and binders in there as well as some tools. So when I subtract that weight plus myself and the tools I had in the truck itself we probably are much closer to being just under 8,000 pounds. Well; at least I can admit my mistakes. Thank you for your input.
