Default Stop letting your kids drive fast cars

Passenger, 19, killed in Syosset one-car crash -- Newsday.com

I was driving into Queens the other afternoon, around 5:30 or so..couldn't believe how many 20 something jerks are zipping in and out of lanes, making triple lane changes, cutting people off with inches to spare.

I've seen 3 of these stories in the past 3 or 5 days on the Newsday and News 12 websites. Stop the madness.

As long as they only kill themselves and no one else!

I heard driving used to be a fun, leisure activity at one point - not anymore! It's a battle field!

The passenger was the one who died in this instance.

The problem is that it IS a leisure activity to these kids...an "extreme" "fast and furious" one.

I'm always astonished how many fast, new cars kids have now a days. Drive past any school and look at the student parking lot - it amazes me how many new sports cars there are there.

I had to buy my first car - it wasn't given to me and it was an old clunker that couldn't go that fast unless it was falling off a bridge! Oh, and I to have my own insurance too - which I had to pay for mostly myself - I got some help around finals time when I cut back my work hours to study more. I knew a speeding ticket would cost me not only for the ticket, but would raise my insurance for years - wasn't taking that chance!

There needs to be more enforcement on those types of drivers. It's horrible and endangers everyone on the road. Ticket them, rather than me for my 1 day expired inspection sticker, please.

C'mon guys, this isn't anything new. This generation is doing it with tricked out high-revving variable valve timed Japanese cars, our generation did it with tricked out, gas guzzling, spine-breaking torque providing, American big iron muscle cars.

Fast cars aren't terribly difficult to access.

People need to be responsible on the road, regardless of age (or generation they represent), but as long as you have idiots in the gene pool, Darwin will do his best to take them out. Unfortunately for the rest of us bystanders, Darwin will take out anyone who happens to be nearby as well.

Apperently you guys forgot the previous era's where people said the exact same thing.

The 70's muscle car era had drag races on every street in america.
In the 80's the pony cars were at it.
And now we have imports....and because they made a movie series called Fast & Furious everyone thinks they are now experts on the import culture. Please spare me the babble. Not every one that owns a fast import is a street racing junkie. The people that complain about street racing and how it kills people are the exact same people that vote against race tracks because they are too noisy. So wth do you expect them to do.

Well, some of you are right...there have been kids flexing their muscles driving cars for years. It's just pathetic that you see 19 year old dying wrapping themselves around trees, and it's even more so when you see an innocent bystander killed by some punks stupidity.

I guess I'm getting old and I should just deal with it..

Pretty much. I talked with my older family mamebers, about drag racing in thier time and it was probably worse in the 70's. My uncles used to race on main street from light to light....against cop cars! They also had friday night drag wars where they would shut down a long stretch of country road and everyone would go out and drag race. They said many kids wiped out and hit trees and other cars etc, its just what happens when you race long enough. If you race, it's not IF you wreck, but WHEN you will wreck.
