however, it should be made clear that the area in ? in the orig. post was on the west side of Carmens. the area you describe is the east side of carmens.

slightly different vibe, and different schools.

But I tried explaining that the crime from amitville, east of carmens, oozes into the west side via the "carmen's funnel" (the little roadway that cuts into carmens plaza.)

The east side of Carmen's road is still Massapequa. It's in the Amityville school district, but the zip code is still 11758 and the mailing address is Massapequa. And the area is nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be.

My understanding is the WEST SIDE of Carmans road is Massapequa/Massapequa Park and is part of the MASSAPEQUA School District. The EAST SIDE of Carmans road is called East Massapequa/West Amityville in Nassau and Amityville/North Amtyville in Suffolk. The EAST SIDE is the Amityville School District.

The area is not called East Massapequa/West Amityville. It is East Massapequa, plain and simple. It's in the Amityville school district and was once a part of West Amityville until the mid 70s. But like I said, the mailing address is still "Massapequa" with a Massapequa zip code.

My Hagstrom map says West Amityville for the part below the railroad tracks and I know the term is still being used as a family member works in the mall. I do not see East Massapequa on the map but I know it is used also (and more & more often) for the part above Sunrise especially. That area as you said is not as bad some people say it is and I suppose "East Massapequa" sounds better than "West Amityville".

Its a sketchy area. Do you have kids? If so I would look elsewhere.

Your information is still somewhat incorrect. Everything east of Carman's Road before County Line Road is Massapequa. Everything after (east of) County Line Road is Amityville. The railroad tracks you are referring to are on the other side of County Line Road - hence those areas are in Amityville. But the Amityville school district section of East Massapequa stretches from across the mall all the way to the other side of Merrick Road by the water. It's not really a question of saying "East Massapequa" sounds better than "Amityville". All the people east of Carman's but west of County Line road live in "Massapequa", plain and simple. Of course it is on the border of Amityville, and because the school district is Amityville, it is sometimes informally called "Amityville". But the area is still technically (East) Massapequa, not Amityville.

The immediate east side of Carmen's Road is the Hamlet of East Massapequa ("Massapequa, NY 11758" mailing address).

The eastern border of the Hamlet of Massapequa is the western border of the Village of Massapequa Park.
