Default How is your garden doing with all this rain?

I'm wondering if it's just me, but I've had to reseed 2x. First time in May, right when we had the warm spell. Then of course it got cold again. None of my vegetable seeds germinated except a couple of bean plants. I planted tomato & pepper plants, but had to plant from seed for all the rest since I couldn't find anything but tomato/peppers.

I've grown cucumbers from seed in containers before & I find they have always done very well. Starting them indoors always ends up a disaster for me. And this is a newly dug garden, so no issue with crop rotation.

So how is your garden doing if you started anything from seed?

Thanks!

too much rain causes problems of their own. Fungus and mold are 2 big ones. Seeds will have a hard time germinating if flooded, and not enough sun will delay the germination.

The weeds are doing marvelously well.

So are the mosquitoes.

And I assume the slugs are planning a garden takeover any day now.

The peonies never had a chance; even the single and semidoubles ended up with their heads battered and necks broken (even with peony rings in place).

One bright spot was that I was able to divide and replant a number of things last week and they didn't wilt a bit afterward, even with no watering other than just after replanting.

The ferns and hostas look great though, I have to say.

all of my veggies & herbs except oregano & mint look TERRIBLE! My tomato plants will never grow large enough to have ripe fruit this year. Lettuces were good, now too wet. Out of about 20 verieties of veggies they all look bad & seriously small for this time of year. My rose bushes looked beautiful until the really hard rain last week. Now the blooms are all beat up & they look sad.
My container annuals even look waterlogged. Nothing has grown. I have one out of many hydrangea ready to bloom & so far it looks great, the others are blah.
We reseeded the entire backyard as we do every spring and it looks ok, not great.

Its a great time to attract predator bugs to your garden to eliminate some of those other pests.
