I will have to agree with you all in regards to Mastic Beach being a crappy area. It seems to be such a shame because the neighborhood has such potential. i have found a nice house in Shirley that I wil be closing on.
The house is gorgeous and the neighbors are great. I wil hopefully be in there by September.

Hi Househunter09, couldn't help but leave a post. I live in Shirley, have lived here for three years and Mastic Beach before that. I have three children in the William Floyd School District, with one going into the high school this year. I have never had a problem. Ever. Never been robbed, mugged, or dealt with any hoodlums. We are a middle class family. My husband is a Police Officer. We have nice neighbors and my kids have good friends. There are MANY good families in this area. I hope you are settled into your new home and I hope you are enjoying the beach this summer! Any questions, please feel free to reply!

I know it sounds tempting,because of the water;but beware! Instead,i would think about mastic, or any of the moriches. Mastic is just down the road,and still alot of good areas. Drive around the neighborhood,day and night; you'll see a difference.
