To each his own.
I guess all those posts with the cheesey realtor speak like "best bang for your buck" and "best value on the north shore" were for our benefit. Thanks! lol...

Chill out. Crooks likes where he lives and lets you know it. He may have a rather liberal view of the commute time relative to other points of the island, but maybe he has a PBA card. Other than that, he's pretty honest about what RP is.

Thanks for the laugh Dman.
No PBA card, just a lead foot and a cloaking device.
Im not trying to mislead anyone.
It is where and what it is.
Peace

I lived in Selden for a year and a half off Burr Road (not far from 25). LOT of traffic, LOT of malls. I lived in Smithtown for 20 years and there was no comparison.
They did not plow 25 in the winter in Brookhaven. It was amazing. I took 25 to work every day and as soon as I hit around Smithhaven Mall, the road would be a dry as a bone. They didn't plow the malls either in the Selden area. It just seemed I was constantly driving in somebody else's tire tracks along 25, on in the malls.
Very, very noisy too. Constantly hearing police and fire sirens. Maybe I was on the wrong side of 25. I don't know.

I've experienced the *cough* insulation on an original Levitt - Levittown home. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
One of my friends is in the H section; he (and many of his neighbors) have had a devil of the time with the aging radiant heat in the Levitt homes.
Old radiant heat system is one thing for the OP to be aware of should he look at the letter sections in Stony Brook.

I don't recall those heating systems being radiant heat. They use baseboard heat but the pipes run up through the concrete slab (as there is no basement). I have heard that these pipes leak/burst all the time and people are constantly getting them fixed.
The Levitt houses in Stony Brook and northern Lake Grove have terrible building quality - they even used sheetrock for the EXTERIOR WALLS.
I strongly recommend people avoid them. Unfortunately for many, buying one of these homes is the only way to get into the 3 Village school district. The Levitt areas are, overall, quite nice and people generally take good care of their homes, but I'd be nervous to live in a house built like that.

You're right, I wrote radiant, but it was the piping in the floor to the baseboard in the Stony Brook Levitts. My parent's old Levittown house had the actual radiant. Sorry for the confusion.
As you've written, the pipes leak and burst quite often. They were set into concrete and the years of direct exposure of metal to concrete is causing the problem.
Like the original Levittown homes, many of the Stony Brook Levitts have been turned over and improved upon. My friend and his family's homes are in the H section; parent's are original owners, he and his brother bought later on. Their biggest problem has been the pipes in the floor, followed by replacing the windows and insulation. Structurally, their houses are fine.

Do you drive a moped Dman?

I am glad you fessed up to your Prius...that has a small part to do with your brisk commute. The OP would be driving with the common folk (I too am an HOV driving snob by the way).

Oh, I missed that. Good catch.
If I drove a moped that could do 45 I'd probably get to Melville faster than someone driving on the LIE during rush hour in the regular lanes.
