She's come a long, long way.
Apparently she doesn't meet your seal of approval.
Shame, great little town.

please elaborate. What was it like way back when? How is it better now? I'm genuinely curious.

Like I said previously, the main reason why I wouldn't live out there is because of the location. This point of view is not specific to Rocky Point, as I feel the same way about the majority of Suffolk County. I did the commute from babylon for several years and simply want a quicker commute now that i have children. For people who work nearby or simply don't mind long commutes, I'm sure it works out just fine.

Bikers and Bugalows
Selden by the Sea
Mastic North etc etc etc.
Its gentrified considerably.
Ill let others weigh in ...but it was pretty rough out here in the 80s.
Truth be told so were Sound Beach, Miller Place, Ridge,Centereach, Middle Island ,Yaphank etc etc etc.
During the boom/post 9/11 the population exploded eastward in search of greater value on the North Shore and people who wouldnt normally consider the area suddenly had Rocky Point on their short list.
Its been a pretty wild ride over the last 20 years.
Its interesting to see how it will all play out on the bust.
RP so far is hanging tough.

I understand your sentiment; my parents moved from the Bronx to LI and for them, Levittown was the 'end of the Earth'.
I lived for several years in RP and it has been shaping up nicely. A while back it could have gone either way, but it's proximity to the water as well as convenient commute to BNL & SUSB have made it more appealing to those who work out in this direction.

Its quaint.
My family in Nassau are like "you live at the end of the earth".
My friends in Jamesport think us Rocky Point Upislanders are crazy for living in the congestion.
Both need to get out more

I'm in favor of EVERYONE driving a clean pass vehicle. I'd be happy to spend an extra half hour in the car to get all the SUVs & gas guzzlers off our roads & break our dependence on forgein oil.
I got the Prius January 08 for practically a song when we had a false low in oil prices. Within a couple of months gas was almost $5 a gallon. I was driving a dodge neon with 133,000 miles that got 33MPG. For me its ALL ABOUT MPGs, now I get a cool 52MPG Even in the Neon AKA the lawn mower I made it to Massapequa in 70 minutes or less taking Sunrise Hwy excluding snowy days.

If we were truly serious about breaking our dependence on foreign oil, we would encourage exploration and drilling for oil in the outer continental shelf, remove all restrictions against extraction of shale oil in the northern plains and promote the building of nuclear reactors to provide the cheap power for the liquefaction of coal.

all good points, but until that happens vehicles with low emissions & high MPG for the masses would be a GREAT start!

Then, you better be prepared for lots of funeral Masses for the masses killed because, under current technology, the smaller, lighter cars that get the higher MPGs are coffins on wheels.
