Stay out of Shoreham-Wading River.... The school district is not what people think. It is poorly run, and their taxes will be on a steep incline for years. Stick with Miller Place; better schools, better test results and stable taxes. Nicer people too!

Theres no ratables to be had in Miller Place and my inlaws taxes are skyrocketing. (11k for a 1300sf ranch near Sound BeachModerator cut: language

No library either...and that sucks.

I like Miller Place but Id give Rocky Point a peek too.
Local parents are very happy with the schools and the taxes are a relative bargain.

Hi everyone and thanks for the great input. I have been looking around in Middle Island and want opinions on Birchwood. I don't plan to move again, and I work in Syosset. How is the commute? How is the LIRR ride if I have to go into the city? I've read a lot of negative things about areas within proximity to Birchwood - would that dissuade anyone?

Go spend a day at the Wal Mart or Compare foods and report back to us with your findings.

If you want closer to LIE on a budget at least look at Ridge/Panamoka.
