What is the "customary" gift (monetary) for a couple to give for a Sweet 16? Party is at a catering hall. Thanks.

A $50.00 gift card to a mall should suffice.

And I thought I should give $100 check. Maybe I'll compromise and give $75. Any other opinions?

As always, there are a few variables involved, but I think $100 is a nice gift assuming you are close friends with the couple, particularly since it's being catered, etc.

Whatever you can afford. If you are comfortable at $100 that is more than sufficient. Just don't feel like it's your job to "pay for" the shindig.

Another nice gift would be something from Tiffany - you can actually get nice jewelry there for less than $100 for a teenager, and who doesn't like to get something in that blue box?!

Twingles...that would have been perfect...if only I had thought of it sooner.

NHP, I agree, it is being catered and if I was to go out to dinner on LI it would cost that much (if not more!).

Thanks~

At a catering hall, I would say $100.00. You could get away with $75.00. Definitely give a check or cash...not a gift card.

Chances that they paid less per plate is un-likely. I usually try to cover my plate whenever I go to a party.

Judge it like a wedding.You want to at least cover your plate.If it's a fancy place i'd go with $100.

You could offer to do;

Pick up party favors, even glow sticks.

For her candle lighting ceremony - offer to have a picture of the guest of honor, printed and placed in custom CD's to be given out to guests.

Something that goes over very well - do a video-photo mortgage, to be shown at dinner. Young picture to old, of the guest of honor growing into the young lady she is.

One thing you could do is yell out the father is passing out a $100 bill to every table. You will never see people move so fast when you say it's placed under one chair. Have a large fake $100 bill printed and placed under one chair before the party starts.

Point - helping out with the entertainment both the birthday girl and parents would appreciated.
