It doesn't mean a thing without good jobs.

Right, and all this nonsense the fed. government is trying with making housing once again pull us out of a recession won't work. One thing about past recessions on the Island were that there were good jobs available, but those jobs are now mostly gone. You can have all the low interest rates and low housing costs you want but with out well paying jobs it won't mean a thing.

Could be worse, could be McMansioned in NC right now without access to jobs in the big city.
FWIW seems like BNL is booming.

Me too, though the only city that is really safe for access to jobs is DC. I think a few more shoes will be dropping in the Apple before things bottom out there.
BNL doing well could be a great start. Now how to take that and use it to develop new business around the Island? Once upon a time when aerospace was king engineers and techs were abundant on the Island, it would be nice to see something like that that again.

Gotham will always be fine ...but good point on DC.
It would be nice to see the Island rise again....I have a feeling Clean Energy will be our next Grumman.

I hope NYC will be fine, but on a recent trip up to Brooklyn all these nice new city view condos around where I was staying were empty. Didn't have the same positive vibe it did a year ago. Then again, does any place?
I'm not sure Clean Energy is the next golden goose, it's just too expensive to manufacture and ship from the Island to the mainland. Now the design and engineering of Clean Energy systems could work but you'd still need to manufacture somewhere else.

I read something a couple of months back (Newsday?) where a German company was using labor on Long Island to construct the huge energy windmills as labor was cheaper here than in Germany. Does anyone else remember reading this?
