Nassau county as a whole is diverse but most individual communities seem to not be so diverse. When you look at most of the schools you find high concentrations of one race with a few exceptions.

This is the same old racial steering that's put LI in the pickle it's in.
You can't really say either Nassau or Suffolk is more racist, IMO. Nassau suffers more from historical segregation issues, but Suffolk has some pig-ignorant places.
I can't offer any recommendations without knowing budget and commute, either.

I had heard stories from some Indian families how they found it really hard to purchase in good school districts in the 1980s because people won't sell the homes to them. One particular family told me of their struggles in getting a house in New Hyde Prk. But the bias is mostly non-existent nowadays. The current mayor of Laurel Hollow ( cold-spring harbor schools) is an Indian immigrant.
Even schools are getting more mixed. Jericho, Syosset and Great Neck South have increasing non-white populations ( mostly Asians, but also some African-americans). I don't see that much diversity in places like Garden city / Massapequa yet, but that might change. But it was my understanding that in today's Nassau, wherever she goes, she will be accepted.

Buddy, I talk from experience being married to an African American women and have 3 children with her. I grow up in Oceanside and rented a apt. there shortly after getting married. My wife never really felt comfortable there the short time we were there. We looked in Garden City across from my Uncle's place and also East Rockaway Merrick,Wantagh,Seaford,Massapequa and a couple of others before buying a home in Baldwin. Yes the was 15 years ago and a lot has changed but you want to be where your wanted some what.

Actually, BigMike is right.
Baldwin is very welcoming to people of all origins and it has some beautiful homes near the Harbor. It's schools aren't bad either. That seems like a good fit.

I could not agree with this statement more. In most places on Long Island, if you can afford to purchase there you will be welcome. That being said, there are indivuals within most communities that are, in fact, racist. I would not let those few bad apples deter you, though, from living wherever you want to live.

Thank you. I was actually considering Baldwin at one point, but had decided against it due to all the negative things that I heard about it. You insight is greatly appreciated.

If you are really looking for a good place to raise a family, try anywhere else but Long Island. I escaped 8 years ago and spent some time back there last fall. Will not do that again. Traffic is still horrible, taxes are worst then ever and it's way too crowded for human to live comfortably.
