Its not a myth that petroleum and pesticide runoff is a carcinogen. So is diesel soot, which is so bad here on LI we ranked almost last in air quality.
No one wants to do anything to change their lifestyle. They want perfect lawns, big cars, and a high consumption lifestyle. Yet its these things that are killing us.
Air pollution causes asthma, its not a myth, asthma rates are higher in polluted areas.
Then there's the cell phone angle of it. Cell phones produce high frequency radiation. My Uncle uses one as his main phone (not while driving fortunately).
You'd think with better technology the US life expectancy would be higher, but its all this pollution thats killing us way too young.
Can eating less increase your lifespan? -- Newsday.com

This is interesting...perhaps it's the highly-processed foods we are eating?

Of course it is. Cut out all the nutrition-less white flower, sugar drinks, bad fats..you'll be half way there. It's easier said than done, because eating bad is cheaper and easier than eating well.

So true! I try to live by the motto "It Man made it, don't eat it." My grocery bills are higher than the average single person because fruits, vegetables and foods you have to actually cook are more expensive than the instant plastic crap you can nuke and eat. However, I don't get colds as often anymore and usually don't catch what's going around the office (unless I'm stressing out). My skin looks better, I don't think I look as old as some of the people I graduated with, and I feel good and don't get that 3pm slump anymore. So, in the end the extra investment is worth it.

Besides cooking meals isn't that hard, and if you invest in a crock pot - it's almost as effortless as nuking something. I love my crock pot. Toss some veggies and such into it in the morning, set it and forget it. Come home to a hot, homecooked meal. It's like having a wife! LOL!

I go back and forth. I'll go on kicks where I eat nothing but orgainc meat and vegetables for a month, and then I'll go on fast food binges where I actually hit a white castle drive thru....consistency is my problem.

I exercise enough to keep weight off, but my diet still isn't great.

I've found that I can't eat fast food anymore. I get sick every time I travel because that's what I'll eat when I'm on the road and my body is not a happy camper! You'd think I'd just pack a lunch, but I sometimes travel spur of the moment.

bmj.com:

British Medical Journal, July 9, 2009:

"Research
Overdiagnosis in publicly organised mammography screening programmes"

{...} "Conclusions: The increase in incidence of breast cancer was closely related to the introduction of screening and little of this increase was compensated for by a drop in incidence of breast cancer in previously screened women. One in three breast cancers detected in a population offered organised screening is overdiagnosed."

McDonald's and Burger King make me sick. Havent eaten there in years. I used to like Wendy's but their food tastes like McDonald's and havent had that junk in well over a year.
Its because of all the preservatives. The body has to work much harder to break these foods down. Just look up Super Size Me experiment. They took fast food fries and burgers and let them sit for weeks and even months, and there was no mold growing on them. Its almost as if it isnt food at all but some kind of synthetic material.

Super Size Me was an interesting program. Watched it with my husband (now my ex-husband), who promptly declared it was a load of bull droppings. I haven't really eaten the stuff since, unless I'm on travel. I feel better, think I look younger and have a ton more energy now. And I really enjoy my food more too.

I watched it and it made me want mcdonalds. I paused it in the middle and went out and got a double cheeseburger. It was kind of a silly experiment. Duh, mcdonalds is not health food.

Too many things go off and on the eat / don't eat list. fat is evil, then sugar is evil, then carbs are evil, now transfats are evil, sodium is next. Some people just eat too much junk period .... everything in moderation is a good way to go.
