Could anyone tell me about the neighborhood around Park Ave. and Dix Hills Rd. in Huntington (11743 zipcode)? What high school does it belong to? This area looks like at the border of Huntington Station and Huntington. We are looking this area for our first home, but not sure about the neighborhood. Currently we are living in hicksville area and are interested in a house near park ave. and Dix hills Rd in Huntington.

We appreciate any input from this forum!

The zip code alone does not tell you what school you will attend. Huntington encompasses many smaller towns and there are many different school districts, especially in that area (I'm sure Walter can jump in here). I think you are on the border of many. If I'm correct you could either attend Huntington, South Huntington, Maybe Half Hallow Hills, possibly even Harborfields. I think you put out a broad area but as far as schools go you have to check that out.

anotherNYer, thank you so much for your quick reply. We drove through that area yesterday and found a house which we are interested. The neighborhood is quite quiet with lots of tall trees.We are looking at the area which is south to the maplewood rd, a little west to the park ave. and north of Jericho Turnpike.

Does anyone know how can I find out the exact school district that a neighborhood belongs to?

Thanks again for your input!

The dividing lines over there are very tricky. There are 3 school disctricts that are literally houses away from each other. The good news is all are pretty good. BUt make sure you have it firm before you sign on the dotted line.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Huntington Station

yoyohuhu, according to the Census Bureau's online address search function, Dix Hills Road is in Huntington Station ("Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address).

And, yoyohuhu, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

For those who may not be familiar with Huntington Station:

Huntington Station is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.

Station in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor and the Hamlet of Huntington; on the east by the Hamlet of Huntington and the Hamlet of Greenlawn; on the south by the Hamlet of South Huntington and the Hamlet of West Hills; and, on the west by the Hamlet of West Hills and the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor.

The Hamlet of Huntington Station has a different border than does the "Huntington Station, NY 11746" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Huntington Station and a place can have other than a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Huntington Station). Those places that have a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Huntington Station are in the Hamlet of Huntington, the Hamlet of South Huntington, the Hamlet of Greenlawn and the Hamlet of West Hills; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Huntington Station with a "Huntington, NY 11743" and "Dix Hills, NY 11746" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): Excellent Long Island Geographic Resource

It is important to know that there are 3 "Huntingtons" (from smallest to largest, in order of acreage):

1. There is the Hamlet of Huntington (whose "downtown" commercial district is colloquially referred to as Huntington Village);

2. There is the "Huntington, NY 11743" ZIP Code postal zone, and it includes the Hamlet of Huntington and parts of 2 villages (the Village of Huntington Bay and the Village of Lloyd Harbor) and 6 other hamlets (the Hamlet of West Hills, the Hamlet of Halesite, the Hamlet of Centerport, the Hamlet of Greenlawn, the Hamlet of Elwood and the Hamlet of Huntington Station) within its service area; and,

3. There is the Town of Huntington, and it includes 4 villages and 15 hamlets as well as the "Huntington, NY 11743" ZIP Code postal zone and all or parts of 11 other ZIP Code postal zones, within its borders.
