Default Looking for a Realtor (Valley Stream)

So we've narrowed down the two locations we like best:
1. Valley Stream, NY
or
2. Bloomfield, NJ
We're looking for a 2 family for about 400-450k and we need a great realtor to get it done. I hate that this is a factor but for some it is, we are minorities (gasp!). So we need someone who is willing to work with us as informed first time home owners and as people. If you have a referral please sent it our way. Thanks!

Default For those who may not be familiar with Valley Stream

Nestlequik, in case you are not aware, about half the places that have a "Valley Stream, NY 11580 & 11581" mailing address are not in the Village of Valley Stream.

When you do find a house that you like, you can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)

And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

For those who may not be familiar with Valley Stream:

Valley Stream is a village (incorporated in 1925) in the western part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County, along the Nassau County/New York City (County/Borough of Queens) line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Valley Stream in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Valley Stream; on the east by the Village of Malverne, the Village of Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Hewlett; on the south by the Hamlet of Hewlett, the Hamlet of Woodmere and the Hamlet of South Valley Stream; and, on the west by the Hamlet of South Valley Stream and New York City (County/Borough of Queens).

Valley Stream is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where many places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the village: places with a "Valley Stream, NY 11580 & 11581" mailing address that are not in the Village of Valley Stream are in the Hamlet of North Valley Stream, the Hamlet of Franklin Square, the Village of Malverne and the Hamlet of South Valley Stream.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

I do not know a realtor I would care to recommend, but here is how to find what's on the market now ...

Here is the website for the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island:

MLSLI.com – Long Island Real Estate – Find A Home in Nassau, Suffolk & Queens

On the upper right side of the page under "Find a Home," click on Start your search here, then under "select property type," choose the radio button for "Multi-Family House." Go down to "select a location" and choose "Nassau," then scroll down under "towns" and choose "Valley Stream." You can find the listing broker/listing salesperson in the description for any of the homes you are interested in. Good luck with your search!
