Nice Long Island Canoeing or Kayaking or Paddle Boats?
Any nice spots on the island where we can rent a small boat to enjoy some tranquil relaxation? Not looking for a guided tour. Just a place where they give you a life jacket, the boat, and you're on your own. Thanks!

out east on the northfork I think there are some places (at least 1) that rent Kayaks. However, you have to strap them to your car to get them to the water.
In Merrick the Levy preserve does kayak tours with rented kayaks. which as a tour, isn't what you were looking for.

Setauket Harbor Kayaks
30 Shore Rd, East Setauket
It's right off of 25A before you get to Port Jeff heading east.
You rent the boats and they launch you right behind the store and you can paddle wherever you want for as long as you want. There are some really nice spots within paddling distance. Plus the rates are probably some of the cheapest on the island.

Carmen's River in Shirley/Brookhaven area. They have a beautiful little river that opens up into the Bay after a while. There was also a place right on Montauk Hwy. that you could rent them, not sure if it is still there, but I know there are a lot of places along William Floyd that have kayaks to buy etc., maybe they also rent. Or, check it out online, but a nice place to do it!

You can do it on the Nissequogue, I forget where exactly (I'm a Nassau girl)- also there's a place in Island Park called "Empire Kayaks" and you can go right in the Reynolds Channel- Long Beach/Island Park area- it's nice around those parts.

Beats carrying the dang thing all that way in the launching area on the other side of them.
