My goodness, if you are looking at houses in that range, Northport (north of 25A) is far, far preferable, if you ask me (a renter residing in downtown NP). The neighborhoods are so lovely, homes gorgeous. Wonderful community feel. The schools in NP are fantastic. Plus you have the park and Main Street. Great libraries (in ENP and NP). Nice thing about ENP I guess is you're closer to the main arteries.

I moved out of Northport Village to East Northport. I still have access to all the amenities, the school district, the libraries, and the beaches, but I was able to get a much larger and newer property and house. My youngest now goes to Dickenson Ave School instead of Ocean Ave School, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

East Northport is nice. If you want western Suffolk try looking in Dix Hills or the Harborfields school district.

I agree with Steph. In that budget I'd much rather be in Harborfields or HHH schools, assuming you plan on sending your kids to public schools. Nothing wrong with Northport or Commack or even Elwood, but those other 2 are widely considered a step up.
