Plainview is diverse (big Indian population) with great public schools. Commute to NYC isn't too bad since it is right off the major hwys. And if you're looking to spend some $$$ the houses off of Washington Ave (north and south of the LIE) look like they cost a pretty penny. I'm not sure if the houses North of the LIE are still in the POB school district, though....

There isn't anything in Plainview remotely close to the OP's budget. It's a very nice middle to upper middle class town, but it's not in the $2M range.

I believe Laurel Hollow is in Cold Spring Harbor SD, which is not diverse at all.

I think Syosset is more East Asian than South Asian, but it's quite a bit more diverse than CSH and parts of Syosset and Woodbury have nice houses on good sized lots. Maybe parts of Roslyn, too. Manhasset proper doesn't have big lots, but there are some newer developments in North Hills that have more land. Muttontown (look for Jericho schools, parts are zoned somewhere else) would also be a good place to try--a little more out of the way, but big houses and properties.

Just don't move near the Sabnani (sp?) slaveholders in Muttontown ... (if their kids still live around there).

I'm so tired of this limited definition of "diversity". Just because GC is 90-some percent caucasian, doesn't mean it isn't diverse. Diversity is more than skin color. We have people of all different ethnicities, nationalities, religions, political affiliations, etc. in GC. Diversity exists in a big way if you don't have a close minded definition of diversity as being skin color.

I have to laugh at people that say this town or that town in the US isn't "diverse". It shows me that they've never traveled much around the world. Go to parts of Europe, China, India, etc. and you will see TOTAL homogeneous groups in every way. Are they lesser people because of it? Of course not. Just because Seoul is 99% pure Korean doesn't mean it's a horrible place.

Towns in the US are incredibly diverse with respect to what you see around the world. So, stop limiting the definition of diversity, and start looking around the world to see how really diverse LI can be.
On LI, it seems you're damned if you are seen as "diverse" (such as where I live) and damned if you're seen as "not diverse" (where you live).

What makes LI'ers happy in this respect? It's ridiculous!

I Love LI...that's a good point. It's tough to please everyone I guess.

I just think most Americans are simply brainwashed by this whole "diversity" initiative. Essentially, we are saying that towns, businesses, clubs, and workplaces must have a certain quota of skin color variations. Forget all the other intangibles that go into making a person unique...their ethnicity, national origin, background, language skills, wit and intelligence, humor, etc.

True diversity doesn't come from variations in skin color but rather in having unique perspectives. The US, and namely NY, is a melting pot the likes of which the world has never seen. Other countries have nothing like it, and yet the media continually bash us over the head about having to be "diverse".

It's insanity and it's about time people started waking up to this fact.

Elke, Roslyn Heights, and not Roslyn proper? Isn't Roslyn Heights the cheaper section? (I don't know what the starting point is in Roslyn Estates.)

I wouldn't choose Hewlett or Woodsburgh. Better school districts for the money, and not all that diverse either.

The short answer is NO. Port is somewhat more diverse income wise than other North Shore areas but it is entirely stable. It is not going to become another Glen Cove where the wealthy abandon the public school system. You should definitely consider Sands Point and the Beacon Hill section of Port Washington
