With all the negative publicity going on surrounding the illegal immigrant situation how come this guy keeps fanning the flames and causing turmoil with everyone he meets?

Yes, God forbid Steve Levy criticize people for breaking the law! Thankfully Newsday is ALWAYS ready to print up a sob story about how the poor ILLEGAL immigrants are being mistreated. The writer wonders what the people in the kitchen might have thought if they heard his joke (and it was a joke). I can guess what they would have thought-- " I don't understand a word that guy said because it is in English and I don't care to learn that language" And of course-- Never a mention of the taxes they don't pay.

ummm...Illegal immigrants are breaking the law. Why would anyone feel bad about criticizing them?? Perhaps arresting them is a better option because they are BREAKING THE LAW!!!

It's a roast, off-color jokes are the norm. I think he was taking his well known rep for being "anti-immigrant" and making a joke out of it. I have an idea, have Steve invite the guys in the kitchen over to his yard for some cervesa's and snap some prime photo's but don't let anyone else in. Soon all will be forgotten the press will carry him off on their shoulders cheering...oh wait that only happens to some public officials

Actually one of the "illegals" was hispanic and a former US Marine that had served in Iraq.

The guy was cross-endorsed by the Republicans in what was a long-time stronghold for the GOP. I never thought I would see the day that happened. Levy is here as long as he wants to be...no matter how LongIsland Citizen feels about his performance ...

The problem of illegal immigration has been a problem in this country for decades. California was screaming about it back in the 1970's. As usual, our elected "Leaders" chose to continue to ignore it which was probably the best move for them. Why make waves? A politician's job is to stay in office, not "Fix" anything.
Levy is tackling problems head on. I like him and how he is handling certain things.
Not sure why those who oppose his views on immigration (Or the SCPD for that matter) choose such weak arguments to make a point. What he said was a joke directed at himself, and his reputaion for being tough on immigration. Duh.

I think its a matter of "USA" having the cake and eating it too.
When it comes to really taking action, no one wants to deport them (because of personal interests) and they will try to potray the human angle (families being separated etc), but at the same time we want to bark at them for being illegals.... stop for a moment and think.... we are using double standards.

For a moment, lets assume all the illegals are out of the country, do you think the country can adjust ? Do you think the cost of living and the standard of living will stay the same ? That is one of the reasons barking dogs seldom bite.

I got nothing against Mr. Levy and I'm not saying the illegals are doing the right thing, but if you step into their shoes, they are doing the best for themselves.... as they are trying to live a better life.

There should be a plan where the illegal-alien-apologists could adopt and sponsor them: offer them a place to stay, help them become legal citizens. I wonder how many would be willing?
