Does anyone know good store to buy macrobiotic ingredients for diet? and is there a group to talk to or learn the life style and cooking from? I go at this alone as the wife stays with the conventional diet. Thanks Mark

Whole Foods or Wild Oats (is there one on Long Island?) would be a good start. They sell grains and dried beans in bulk.
Trader Joes has a nice selection of grains as well.
For the veggies...its getting into farm stand season on the north fork. You'll find all you need.
My wife and I try to lean toward this kind of diet...but to be honest sometimes I just need a cheeseburger :-)
Whole Foods would be a goo bet. Wild Oats was acquired by Whole Foods a while back...
Try Wild by Nature in Huntington, another location being East Setauket.
Here are two more small stores: Cornucopia in Sayville (Cornucopia Health Foods-Gluten Free Foods, Supplements, Natural Remedies) at 39 N. Main St, Sayville, and St. James Natural Food at 296 Lake Ave in St. James. These two stores seem to be family owned, perhaps they could accomodate your request?

You jugged my memory...
In Rocky Point there is a really nice little organic/natural food store called Back to Basics. The owner runs the place and is extremely friendly...I'd definitely recommend that if you are in the area.
I forgot to mention to you Mark... for a great Macro restaurant in NYC try angelica's kitchen I think on 14th st on the east side. I bought their cook book as well which is fantastic... angelicakitchenangelicakitchen
Fairway has some stuff but Wild By Nature and Whole Foods has a lot more.
To know exactly what Macrobiotic ingredients are you need to read up on it. There's quite a bit to know. Feel free to ask me anything specific you may want to learn about it.
Here's a link to a post I started about a year and a half ago. Hope it helps..http://www.city-data.com/forum/healt...out-there.html
I found this very interesting, but seems hard to follow and stick to. I can see why you really have to be committed. Was this diet first created for weight loss or health problems? I have heard of macrobiotic's, first time I actually read up on it. I buy all organic foods, I do not want my kids/family eating food thats packed with chemicals and preservatives. I changed about 7 years ago. So this caught my eye . (for me, not the kids) I do not have health problems or over weight, just into living healthy. I also do not use chemicals to clean.. I only use natural/organic cleaners for years now... those on the macrobiotic diet, do you clean organically as well? (just curious)
How did you start on this diet? Was it little at a time?
Thanks~
