Go to Gilgo beach, get there before 8 am. Great beach, clean snack stand with warm food. One fo the best.

There are places that are both kid friendly and quiet? They won't be the latter for long.

The Town of Hempstead Beaches (Lido, Lido West--my favorite, Point Lookout, Nickerson) are quite close to Long Beach. You pay by the carload
(7.00 I think) if you have proof that you are a resident of the Town of Hempstead, i.e. Driver's License.

I just reread this. Am I not able to go to Lido West (or Lido, whichever has the pools) if I am NOT a resident of the Town of Hempstead. Brooklynites can't go? What about Gilgo beach?
Thank you.

Gilgo is in Babylon, and if you get there early as a non resident you do not have to pay parking etc. One of the best kept secrets down there.

I don't know about the pools (I never use them) but non-Nassau residents can use Nassau Beach (NIckerson Beach). They pay $20 instead of $8.

Long Beach has high non-resident fees to discourage day trippers, because it's the only beach located within walking distance of the LIRR.

The beaches in Lido are very nice but with ALL beaches in that area, beware of riptides. I nearly drowned when I was 12. It's $20 to enter (per car) if you're not a Nassau County resident.
You have to be a TOH resident, not Nassau County. I live in LOng Beach which is right next door and if I went to Lido Beach I would ahve to pay a non-resident fee...or at least that's how it used to be if it didn't change.

See the link I posted above. Lido and Lido West are ToH. Nickerson is Nassau County and requires a Leisure Pass for resident fees.

Lido and Lido West are also $20 for nonresidents (parking)--it says there are walk in fees, but I've never walked in.

IMHO Cupsogue is your best public beach on LI.

Better go during the week though.
