Default Lindenhurst Transportation Proposition Revote August 12

To all Lindenhurst School District Parents:

The Lindenhurst School District, in it's infinite wisdom, passed a School Budget that removed busing for students within a certain distance of their schools. Lindenhurst has traditionally refused bussing to many students within a certain distance of the schools, and the resulting traffic around the schools in the morning and afternoon is amazing. This proposition will ADD to that traffic.

Having been a parent that had to drive their children to Elementary and Middle schools for the past 10 years, it is the most grueling, unsafe, gasoline-wasting experience in my entire life. For those people who care about the environment, think about all the carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere from all those extra cars, delivering only one or two students each.

Luckily, this past year, my son, going into 9th grade, has had the opportunity to get bussed to the High School. It had removed a lot of anxiety for me and my wife, and while I can not find any information as to whether he will continue to get a bus, I implore all parents in the district to vote YES on the proposition to keep busing for those children who will lose it in 2009-2010.

It seems that many people were misled when voting yes or no, and there were reports that people wanted to vote FOR the busing, and instead were voting to have it removed.

Notice the sly way in which the revote is worded, in that it says "Vote Yes to ADD $621,000 to the budget", while in reality, if you vote Yes, you are voting to KEEP THE STATUS QUO.

Was the bussing removed or stayed the same?

if less than 1 mile,,,, no busing
more than a mile, you get the PRIVILEDGE of a bus

simple isnt it

when I was in school that was the rule, if less than 1 mile you WALKED, rode your BIKE or had mommy drive you

getting a bus when you live 4 tenths of a mile is STUPID and WASTEFUL

Did you read the proposition? Or anything about what was voted down to begin with?

For the high-school, the old rules were: Within 1 mile, you walk. New rules: Within 1.5 miles, you walk. That puts certain students walking over major highways, and lots LOTS more cars near the schools when the traffic is already unbearable.

The elementary and middle school rules are different, and available in the links I provided above.

Couple that with the school trying some shady things with the security company when you could have saved money doing something else (not sure about the details of that) and trying to cut the transportation budget to make up for that.

And, the shady wording of "vote yes, add $621,000 to the budget" when it's really "vote yes, keep the transportation budget from previous years".
