What place is this in Plainview/Melville? Off LIE...
When I drive from Mineola towards Hauppauge on the LIE (eastward), I see some sort of a community on the left, I guess before Exit 49S. It looks like some (fairly) newly built townhomes from the LIE, but I am not sure. Does anyone know what that area is...my guess is its either Melville or Planview.
It just looks pretty nice from the LIE and gave me hope that there really might be some nice townhomes in the area, much like the nice ones I used to see down in Virginia/Maryland.
Does anyone know what those developments are???

From your description, sdeshpan, my guess is its either (the Hamlet of) West Hills or (the Hamlet of) Woodbury.

I think they are on Round Swamp road. There is a development there, I think it might be an over-55 community but not sure. My friend's father lives over there, I'm not sure if that's his community or not.

The one you can see immediately from the LIE is the Seasons 55+ community.
There are nice townhouses on LI, but they are pricey for what you get--no cheaper than a single family house. Just more amenities and no maintenance.

With a little help from Google, here's an article from the New York Times, Seasons at Plainview.
