Thumbs down As if one major proposed project in the Pine Barrens isn't enough...

There's two! Steve Levy wants to go forward with his Levyville in Yaphank, as I found out in an article in the North Shore Sun.

YouTube - Just say NO to development in Yaphank!
Yaphank is a quiant little community in the Long Island Pine Barrens. There are fields, farms, and of course, pine barrens. But County Executive Steve Levy has plants for the acres of County Land in the area. Much of this is undeveloped land that surrounds county buildings, such as Vector Control, Police HQ, and a County Jail.
Rather than turn it into a preserve where people can hike, Steve Levy has grand plans of stadiums, theaters, and housing. Some call it Levyville or Levyworld, I just call it a DISASTER.
This development and the one in Calverton will destroy what pristine lands in the pine barrens we have left. Pollution, runoff, litter will ruin the landscape, and contaminate the underground drinking water and Carmans River.
I need you to call and write letters to Suffolk County urging them NOT to allow this project to go forward.

Thanks for pointing this out... if we wanted to live in queens, we would move there. This is so wrong and I hope he is stopped in his tracks... I never could stand him... wish there was a way to get rid of him all ready!

Its backasswards.

Put the express rail in ...then do your transit oriented development Steve.

No one wants a cheap condo in the woods with no nightlife or access to jobs.

Youre doing it wrong....too dense and pi$$poor salesmanship.
They should do a TDR withe the land by the old Multiplex in Medford ,by the Junkyard and really open
Brookhaven up.

I'm curious if we are finished developing land? If so, just say it then.
Otherwise, the proposed site seems ideal to me. On the west side of this parcel is a brand new power plant (Off of Old Dock Road) and industrial park and to the south (and slightly west) is what is becomming the largest mountain in NYS (Brookhaven Landfill). For those opposed, show me a better spot.
I don't agree with everything Levy is proposing, but it is workable. Oh, and by the way, this story is quite old. Sounds like another lame attempt to bash Levy.
