Default Coram

My hubby and I just recently moved to Coram and are a bit surprised on some of the comments we are reading about now...we have also noticed the type of element people are describing in certain areas of Coram. We have no children, so the schoold district is not so important to us at the moement as we prefer private schooling for when we do have a child. We are up past the elementary school North of 25 several blocks off Coram Mt Sinai Rd. Can any one share their opinion/ comments of this area? Thanks!

Uh Oh, someone saw a black person.

IMO, you live in an average middle class neighborhood. Hope you are not disappointed.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Coram

For those who may not be familiar with Coram:

Coram is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Coram in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by Hamlet of Terryville, the Hamlet of Mount Sinai and the Hamlet of Miller Place; on the east by the Hamlet of Middle Island and the Hamlet of Gordon Heights; on the south by the Hamlet of Medford; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Farmingville, the Hamlet of Selden and the Hamlet of Terryville.

The Hamlet of Coram has a different border than does the "Coram, NY 11727" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Coram and a place can have other than a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Coram): places that have a "Coram, NY 11727" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Coram are in the Hamlet of Middle Island, the Hamlet of Gordon Heights, the Hamlet of Medford and the Hamlet of Selden; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Coram with a "Selden, NY 11784", "Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776" and "Middle Island, NY 11953" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Coram is fine; my wife grew up there, went to Stony Brook and onto grad school. She's a professor now and she turned out great IMO.

It's all about parenting. Her folks did a great job

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

North of 25 off Mt.Sinai Rd is a nice area, unfortunately it gets overshadowed by the Gordon Heights section.
The northern sections of Coram are just as nice Mt.Sinai in my opinion.

North of 25 is ok but on 25 in coram and anywhere south gets pretty rough..I beleive the homestead drive area is part of coram off of 25, and if u want to see the real ghetto take a drive down there. And yes north coram is similar to south of mt. sinai because they border each other, however once you go north of 347 it a whole diffent ball game.

I have been renting in Coram for the last 4 years close to rt. 25 and rt.112. Never had a single problem.

I rented in coram as well (avalon pines), and it was great there, because its a somewhat gated community and the rent is high, which keeps out the riff raff and groups of young college party types.
