Desperately seeking diversity on Long Island...
Let's keep it simple - I am black, he is white, we live in Hempstead. We love our home but the school district is a deal breaker. We make great money and are looking to relocate (within the next few years.) Any suggestions?

What about the Half Hollow Hills School District? It is a "diverse" and high quality school district. Also, Wheatley Heights is a community that is pluralistically more Black, but is about 35-40% White and has other groups in the community as well. It is pretty affluent and in the HHH SD. Baldwin Harbor is very Diverse, dont have up to date numbers, but seems 50/50 black and white. No tensions here, everyone gets along, very friendly. Have not heard much about the schools....probobly not the best or the worst, but a very beautifull community to live in. we just moved here from Queens 3 months ago. My wife is black, and i am white....good luck

God I hate the word "diverse". Why do Americans insist on categorizing everyone? Why is there such value placed on a regions ability to put out raw numbers of racial or ethnic minorities?
Everyone is DIVERSE! We all have different beliefs, religions, politics, cultural backgrounds, genders, sexual preferences, etc. Why is it necessary that a region has a certain % of people with a certain skin color?
Ugh.

Agreed, even worse are the people who hyphenate themselves. The only people who should be hyphenated are those who were not born in the US, everyone else is a plain old American period.

^ My reaction everytime I see a thread like this

well certain places arent really diverse...garden city, massepequa.....not that it cant be done, but realisticly, i wouldnt look in those places, due to lack of diversity.....diversity is not a negative thing, and it does exist. it would be nice to play we are all american card, its easy to say when your not facing against it.

My picks would be Baldwin, Valley Stream, and Rockville Centre (the part that borders Baldwin). They all have pretty good school districts and are diverse.
