Exclamation Help! Suffolk County Questions

I'm moving from queens to Smithtown with my three children. I don't know if it would be a good idea since I don't know too much about LI. You don't have to answer all but any info would be most appreciated.

My questions are:

A. Should I buy a ranch and convert to colonial? would it be cheaper? How much do you think it would cost. I have large furniture.

B. Is Kings Park nice or is there an area I should look into?

C. Is Hauppauge a good school district? Because it's small? Do you know what kind of school district it is?

D. Is Commack a good school district? They call it a blue ribbon district. By whom? Is commack a nice place to live.

E. I want to have a .5 acre or more. What are the pro's and cons? I want to split an Acre for my sister-law and her husband, since they can't afford these high real estate prices. I just want to give it to them for free.

It has a GREAT district but is the most expensive to live in out of the ones you mentioned. The others are a little shaky!

I've heard Smithtown schools are good. It's quite an expensive area so I would think they put money into it.

PLEASE VOTE!! Thanks. I just want to make sure even with the commute and all the ills of Suffolk, that I'm making the right decision for my three young toddlers. Thanks.

A. I would say buy a big enough house instead of adding on.
B. Kings Park is nice but pretty far North. Depending on which way you commute to work.
C. Hauppauge is a great school district. Decent taxes at least on the Islip Town side.
D. I went through the Commack schools about 100 years ago and so much has changed but I think they are still very highly ranked.

E. In any of these ares that size property is gonna cost you.

This is to answer item E. I looked at .25 acres and still have seen the same price range. Any clues?

Item D. How is commack changed? Please be honest. I don't want to make a big mistake. Thanks.

Commack has't gotten bad by any means. I grew up there in the 60's & 70's when there were 3 schools on scholar lane alone. Circle Hill elementary, JFK JR high and Commack North High School. Circle Hill and JFK are now a housing development. Commack North HS still exists and there is a Commack South HS as well. I think there is one elementary school and 1 Jr high school now. Other than that I still like the Commack area. I think a lot of young families are moving there to raise their children.
