Default Anyone in the Sound Beach/Rocky Point area hear an explosion just now?

A little bit after 1:00 AM, I heard a muted but loud "boom" that sounded like it was somewhere over the Sound. It sounded too potent and low-pitched to be fireworks, but it didn't seem to rumble or rattle the windows, so I don't think it was a stroke of lightning. Nor did it sound like gunfire to me. Anyone else hear it, or see anything?

I'm almost wondering whether it was a small meteorite that blew up in the atmosphere -- but it was probably something more banal, like an exploding transformer, though I didn't see the lights flicker. I once heard a similar abrupt noise that turned out to be a very low-magnitude earthquake, but that was more of a "crack" sound.

I heard it but have no idea what it was. Not a gunshot or fireworks but other than that I have no idea.

I heard a similar sound like 3-4 hours ago (probably the time as you) and I'm in Southeast Queens, it probably was a meteorite .

I was awake, but the TV and AC were on and windows closed. I'm west of the OP on the Sound.

Ever hear a jet break the sound barrier? I wonder if any military aircraft were going supersonic in the area at that time.
