Default Commute Queens to Hauppauge?

What about commuting from Queens to Hauppauge-is it ridiculous? Would it be a train or have to be a car ride? Thinking of trying to get as close to the city as possible since rent appears to be similar to Huntington L.I. ?Is this a crazy idea?

I think you will have to car it. I doubt the train will get you close enough to where you need to be in Hauppauge. I commute from Commack to Jackson Heights. Not too bad.

Might be easiest to stay around the Bayside/Eastern Queens area and as long as you have a car it is reasonable (45 minutes give or take there, slightly longer on the way back.)

Default Lirr

There is a LIRR station in Hauppauge

but you'd have to get from Queens into the station at Penn Station via Subway and then get the LIRR out to Happauge
MTA LIRR - LIRR Map

may be easier to drive back roads

There is no LIRR Station in Hauppauge. Closest would be Central Islip (Ronkonkoma line). 2nd closest would be Smithtown (Port Jeff Line). Either way its about 1 hr ride to LIRR Jamaica station. From there its either bus or subway.
