Roosevelt Field
Has anyone been lately? After my last two weekend visits, I can't believe it's the same RF. I vowed to never go back again on a weekend. Definitely not the same mall as it was just a few years ago. What gives? I really hope RF doesn't go downhill from here.

Yeah the mall is definately changing, I wouldn't say it's even nearly as bad as Green Acres, but if it keeps heading in that direction...
The elevators in the parking garages are straight from ghetto, noisy, rough, vandalized, and broken lanterns.
We're witnessing the decline of Nassau County. Too bad not enough people care. Eventaully the only safe places will be gated communities and shopping at Americana Manhasset.

It's pretty bad...yeah. A lot of the stores are closing or downsizing. Saturday in Nine West there was a mouse running wild in the store. So lovely & just what I needed during shoe shopping.

Wow I'm sorry to hear this is happening. It was 4 yrs ago since I lived on LI and used to frequent Roosevelt Field. Everything still looked new and it seemed it was catering to middle and upper middle class with the type of stores that were there. I'll just be glad when my parents retire in a couple years from Long Island and move out so I don't have to go there anymore.

What is wrong with it? I looked at the online directory and it seems like it still has a lot of nice stores. (Although when it comes to stores like Brooks Brothers, I would rather shop at the outlet for things like men's shirts and pay much less anyway.)
I stopped going to RF awhile ago because of the traffic and lack of parking. The last time I went was over a year ago and it was just to eat at the Grand Lux. I found parking near the restaurant and did not go into the mall proper at all.
I go to the mall closest to me, which is Green Acres, for certain stores I like that do not have outlets. I have never had a problem there, day or night, but some people do not like the fact that it attracts a lot of minority shoppers from the boroughs. They do not bother me.

The online directory may not be up-to-date. A lot of stores have closed.

RF has gotten a bit thugged out. In the 80's and 90's you had quite a few dirtbag rocker types with some skaters thrown in there. Over the last decade that's been replaced by the thug gangsta types (which parallels how music has gone as well).
I think RF always had shady characters...it was just a matter of picking your poison...rockers or gangstas?

Not so much the stores changing, but Azzuro had it right...
alot more thuggy type, loitery types hanging around. Alot.
The average shoppers a few years ago (like myself) are now the minority of who is strolling around in there. This was not just one occasion either...I have had it, esp on a weekend. I could not believe it was RF mall and it's very disturbing to watch it take a turn for the worse.

So true - my DH was there the other day and this woman was looking at the directory and said "look your favorite store, Zany Brainy! - let's go find it" and my DH didn't have the heart to tell them it closed a few years ago.
It's definitely a ghetto there - but check out where the traffic is coming from especially on the weekends...just another example of Queens and Brooklyn pushing eastward.

I don't know if it's that. I don't see why that would be happening, and now...
I was thinking, when did that Wal-Mart on Old Country rd open? Could that be what is causing the influx of not your regular RF crowd??
