we just closed the other day on our house and I have a question.
I'm not a first time home buyer but my wife is. we just got married on 8/8. by default, we will file married for 2009 but for the federal tax credit you can file an amended 2008 return which she would file single.
now I don't think we're elgible anymore because we got married and closed after we're married. by default i think me not being a 1st time home buyer automatically knocks her out.
I'm wondering if anyone has faced this same circumstance and what did you end up doing?
im pretty sure u cant claim it. one because u were already married when u closed, and two, even if u werent married, if u bought the house with both names, that would disqualify u
