Just wanted to chime in and say I've been experiencing it in Franklin Square as well. I've noticed the planes are more frequent and lower than ever before so I know exactly what you mean. Had a party in the backyard last weekend and people were commenting that they never realized I had so many planes passing over my house in all the years they've known me.
I'm in Hicksville and barely hear them fly over, but they do fly over. When I'm not occupied and the windows are open I will realize one is overhead. Nothing bothersome. They are at a pretty good altitude still at this area. I've gone all summer including sleeping without it ever being an issue (no realization till I read this thread). My wife is a very light sleeper and she's never mentioned planes. I don't know how they can be much closer down in Westbury that it shakes walls.
Terrible noise yesterday and today. More or less non-stop here in Westbury. Even with all my windows closed I can still hear them. A few have been so low my walls shook.
Then I took this shocking video at Roosevelt Field, as this plane thinks it's still an airport and not a mall!
My parents live in Old Westbury where the planes fly literally directly over the house. Directly. I almost feel like I'm going to be able to wave to the pilot one of these days.

Not to be sarcastic or insensitive but why don't you move?
You obviously hate it there, with the pounding etc.
If youre expecting country quiet in Nassau,I hate to tell you but it's long gone and ain't coming back.
When you live that close to the biggest City in the world you gotta expect the noise.
Hell I expect it in Suffolk.

No way, why should I be forced out of my town by the FAA? The FAA can change patterns again and subject another area to this abuse at any time. No place is safe unless you're waaayyy out in Suffolk. If that's the case I'd rather be in Toms River or Beachwood NJ which is removed but has better transportation.
The bottom line is people need to get involved. If 100s of ppl call their officials every week something will get done. They have similar stuff in NJ, but have an organization to fight it. I still dont see that many low flying planes into Newark when I take the bus over there, they come in high and dont start lowering until 2-3 miles before the airport. Why cant JFK do this?
