True, but it's a problem when the weather is mild and I need to open my windows. Of course, its gonna start getting colder so I wont need them open as much.
How are people going to travel then? Come on, the noise of an aircraft every once in a while is not terrible. I lived in Floral park, and I remember the concorde passing right over us. now that is loud. If you want to live in an area just outside the largest city in the USA, then this is a cost of that. If you want to live in a cabin in maine, you would have your quiet, but no transport anywhere like we do here. One can fly pretty much anywhere non-stop out of JFK, and it is an asset to the area.
That's because nothing can be done. If you live in Nassau/NYC, jet noise is something you HAVE to live with. U don't have an alternative unless you move

2nd thread started by OP. Perhaps we should shut down Kennedy airport?
Airport didn't bother us much until recently. Something has changed. They run more flights over Nassau and they are lower. Why cant they just go back to the way things were?
Terrible noise yesterday and today. More or less non-stop here in Westbury. Even with all my windows closed I can still hear them. A few have been so low my walls shook.
Then I took this shocking video at Roosevelt Field, as this plane thinks it's still an airport and not a mall!
first off that youtube thing is wrong, its NOT a very 'low' flying,,,is it a little low.yes, but not very low.
second, you live on long island, a suburb of NYC with at least 3 major airports, LGA, JFK, and EWR, plus islip is being EXPANDED...maybe you should buy better windows
I have lived here for years in east meadow (right next to westbury) and planes come and planes go,,on certain days you could here the SST taking off from JFK (back when the concord was flying)
You live in Westbury. Not far from an airport. Get over it and stop whining. Why'd you buy a house there?? You're like those idiots who buy a house next to the RR tracks, or along the expressway and then complain about noise. It was there before you came, and it'll be there after you're gone.

Agreed.
Air pattern change or not this guy needs to pipe down or leave.
Whaddya expect...youre in Nassau, a few miles from the city line.
Remember convenience comes at a price.
Whats really sad for LI it that it used to be only families with money moving out to LI .Now its for those who cant afford the City.
Were not really attracting NYs best and brightest these days.
As Queens overtakes Nassau, and Nassau overtakes Suffolk remember that once, not too long ago, this was the country.
Ive lowered my quiet expectations considerable and I live East of 112.
Johninwestbury is spot on. We aren't talking about an isolated jet here and there. We are talking about systematic flight paths over certain neighborhoods which bombard them. We are talking about jets over your home every 2 minutes.
This isn't some small little nuisance. It is a quality of life issue. Do we as residents of Nassau really want to put up with noise and jet fumes all of the time?
My argument has never been to totally stop the flight paths over LI. They've been there forever. The argument is twofold:
1. Fly the jets slightly higher over more points of the Island. Right now they are coming in much lower than the 3 degrees of approach that is recommended by the FAA.
2. Vary the flight paths so that certain communities don't have to bear the brunt of the noise. Why should Westbury, GC, Floral Park bear the entire burden when Bellerose, West Hempstead and other towns get off scott free?
