Getting POUNDED tonight
The jet noise has been absolutely awful. I got home at 6pm and it's just been non-stop, a plane every minute or so. They seem to be lined up and of course no variation in flight path, so we get pounded over and over again. For those who dont understand, try listening to whining jet engines every minute.
3 passed over just writing this!
I just dont understand how us central Nassau residents can get abused like this!

Abused? I don't think any of the airports near or on Long Island are newer than 40 years old, so you didn't take close proximity to the airport into consideration when you moved in?

I dont live near the airport! JFK is over 15 miles away. There are several factors involved. There's more air traffic, the planes are approaching lower, and they are using less variation.
So the same folks get pounded over and over again. Just speak to anyone in central Nassau, Westbury, Hicksville, Mineola, Garden City. The weird thing is this is called the "Belmont Approach", which is supposed to follow the LIE (north of here) and then turn SW over Searingtown, then through Floral Park and over Belmont Racetrack.

I really feel for you !!
I lived in a condo in flushing years ago when my son was an infant.
When the planes would prepare for their landing, not sure if it was LGA or JFK path, the headlights would shine into my son's bedroom lighting it up like instant sunshine! It seemed like only a couple of mins between planes and it would go on and on and on. We lived on the 3rd floor, so these planes seemed pretty close. And the noise, OMG, I just wanted to kill myself. We couldn't leave the windows open, ever. After 4 years of that nonsense, we sold the condo and moved. And no, we weren't aware of the air craft noise or landing pattern at the time of purchase.
Aren't they suppose to rotate the flight pattern between neighborhoods so people can get a break once in a while?
I understand that if you live near the airport, you have no choice.

John, I really don't think anything is going to change. You're located in such a central hub for flyovers, close to one of the busiest cities On Earth. It would be conceding defeat, but maybe it's time to consider relocating to improve your quality of life. It sounds awful. I bet moving just 5 or 10 miles further away in one direction would make a difference.
Good luck.
P.S. Yes, the title of this post was quite....interesting! : )
