Northport. I'm not sure of the size of the Jewish population, but I have neighbors & friends that are Jewish. The synagogue is on Elwood Rd. The schools music program is one of the best in the country.

Ward Melville without a doubt - there are 2 temples in the 3V community - North Shore on Town Line Road and Temple Isaiah on Stony Brook Road, plus a Jewish service at the University, and a school for Judaism at Suffolk Community College.

Music at Ward Melville is great - excellent teachers, very supportive, and they turn out excellent concerts.

Go to Northport HS, Half Hollow Hills and Ward Melville and do a comparison check. That's how you'll find out. Your ears will tell you the story.

Located at 328 Elwood Road in the Hamlet of East Northport in the Town of Huntington, East Northport Jewish Center, is a Conservative Synagogue.

Starting in Huntington and working your way east along the North Shore you'll find several neighborhoods that fit your criteria.

I'm partial to Northport having lived there for several years but most of the suggestions made previously in this thread are excellent choices as well.

Half Hollow Hills has a bigger Jewish population than 3V (though 3V's has increased substantially in recent years), but 3V is almost certainly the most Jewish area that far east. Behind that, Commack and Smithtown, though I couldn't tell you about the schools.

If I needed regular access to the city, I'd pick HHH. If that were not a consideration, both HHH and 3V are excellent picks and it would really come down to what you liked personally.

My vote is Northport. The wife of a good friend of mine grew up there and it was a pretty vibrant Jewish community from what she has told me. Good luck!
